Audio problems in karmic-9.10
I am running wine 1.1.29 in kubuntu karmic-9.10 64-bit, and I am having a problem with audio in wine -- namely, there is none. The problem seems to be that in jaunty, there are several files installed in /usr/lib32/alsa-lib that are needed to support audio in wine, as part of the ia32-libs package. In karmic, those files are not present in the package -- there are only a couple of bluetooth

alsa not available in winecfg under karmic?
I upgraded to karmic yesterday, and ran winecfg. The list of possible sound systems has shrunk to three: oss, jack and eSound. I tried running winecfg plain, and with padsp and pasuspender prefixes. Susan

alsa-utils missing asoundconf in Karmic
Asoundconf has been my preferred method of changing my default card, to use wine outside pulseaudio. However, Asoundconf has been removed in karmic, in anticipation of the new GNOME volume control + pulse configuration. Now, if we need asoundconf, we must download alsa-utils from jaunty, and extract asoundconf from that. For further info see this bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376024

Lotus Notes 7.03 crash when changing workspaces
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with five workspaces set up in GNOME. I assume it's using compiz (I didn't tell it not to), which I know can interact problematically with Wine. I use Notes 7.03 for Windows quite happily in Wine at work. (I know there's a Linux client, but the installer seems very hard to get hold of casually.) As long as I use only one workspace. If I open it in one

Then I tried to

Conflicts between kde and wine games - workaround
I'm posting this message because I discovered that there appear to be serious video conflicts between some games running in wine, and the kde desktop. Specifically, I have been unable to get "The Witcher Enhanced Edition" to run without severely distorted video. I have both gnome and kde desktops on my system (kUbuntu jaunty-9.04). Today I tried running the game in gnome, and was

problems with Rcmdr on R-2.10.0 with Karmic Koala
Dear R Debian People: I have put this on regular R help as well, but thought that I'd try here too. I updated to R-2.10.0 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala via apt-get update, apt-get install. Then I had a problem that said that I need MASS <= R-2.9.2. Fair enough. Uwe Ligges was kind enough to point out that I needed to use > update.packges(checkBuilt=TRUE) So I did. Now the menu on Rcmdr

problems after upgrade from 3.3.2 to 3.4.0
Hi, After upgrading one of my samba servers from ubuntu jaunty (3.3.2) to karmic (3.4.0) I cannot access the shares any more. The server (FINTLEWOODLEWIX) is set up to check authentication via a PDC (IO), which is also running 3.4.0 (and has been before). Guest access is allowed so that any users without a local unix account will be granted read access. Valid users are allowed read/write. After

Wine problem on Kubuntu Jaunty Alpha 3
Hello. I've just installed a fresh Kubuntu Jaunty Alpha 3. I've also installed Wine package. But when trying to create my home directory with any command (wine something.exe or winecfg) the following command appears: Code: wine: created the configuration directory '/home/dabore/.wine' wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0xb87bd46c at address 0x7db33b66 (thread 000b),

Font issue with Wine
Hello, I'm under Ubuntu - Jaunty Jackalope. While installing 3 different games under Wine (Medieval II - Total War, Patrician III : Rise of the Hanse and Anno 1503), the installation went smoothly but the same problem of the game asking to insert an already inserted CD occured. By searching the web, it appeared that it was a cd protection issue, so I found no-cd patches and applied them.

R with atlas in ubuntu karmic 64
Hi, I'm trying to install R with atlas in ubuntu karmic 64. I do a lot of matrix operations so I need performance. Doing grep sse2 /proc/cpuinfo tells me tha my CPU supports SSE2. But I don't see libatlas3gf-sse2 in the package repositories. Also, there seem to be some gotchas on how to install atlas, even the vanilla one, as described here:
