Is there a way to force wine to use more memory?
Hello. I've noticed that some games(like Witcher) need more ram to use. Problem is that I've got 4gb (3,5) but after playing a while wine is crashing when memory riches 1,6 or 1,7 GB. Obviously when you change some settings to low it runs longer, but some games just look great with full settings on(like Witcher:) ) What I want to ask is that : Is there a way to force wine with some

Game that worked in .24 doesn't in .25 and .26
I have a game (The Witcher Enhanced) that worked in 1.1.24, but does not in .25 or .26. It dies on startup with a black screen, and CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE (killing the X server) appears to be the only escape. In addition, attempting to run in with .26 makes changes in the .wine directory I use for the game, such that the only way to get it to run in .24 again is to reload the .wine directory from

Frequent "Out of memory" issues with DX9 games under Gentoo
Since I switched to Gentoo Linux, I have had multiple issues of DX9 games crashing after about 15-20 minutes of playing because of "out of memory" issues. I do not recall having so many problems with that when I was running Wine under Ubuntu. My config: Q6600 4 GB Ram Nvidia 8800GT Gentoo X64 Latest wine-git as of Feb 8 2009 I have reported one of them as a bug:

Problem with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 and Wine 1.3.20. I've been trying to run The Witcher 2 but with no success. I've installed vcrun2010 with winetricks and downloaded mfcu100.dll (to system32) because that's what showed up to be missing when runnig game from terminal. Now all I get is this message: fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0 and I have no clue what it means. I have the

Strange colors in wine-1.1.38 playing The Witcher
An issue has appeared in wine-1.1.38 while playing The Witcher. Many of the plants that should appear green are now bright orange. Reverting to 1.1.37 or earlier fixes the problem. This is kubuntu-9.10 64-bit system with NVIDIA 190.53 and 195.36.03 (tried both, same problem) drivers. Compositing disabled. The game is otherwise playable. Is there some configuration setting that has changed with

Witcher 2 - DRM removal
I know I have seen posts recently of people trying to get this game to run through wine and did not know if the DRM on the game was a part of the issues they were running into. I'm sending this through just in case it helps: "A little over a week after its release, /The Witcher 2/ is getting its first patch, and with it all versions of the game will now be DRM free...With version

Problem with save files during game
Before I posted a bug report for the Witcher 1, I thought I'd ask on the forum if anyone else was having trouble with Witcher 1 save files. Essentially the problem lies in that quests are not being saved to files so that if I save and try to reload the game, the quest info+progress will have disappeared. This only cropped up at Chapter 3. One other person encountered this in chapter 2.

Gaining performance by disabling functionality?
As most Wine users probably know, running applications using Wine won't (in most cases) give you the same performance as running the application in native Windows. From my experience this is especially true when it comes to applications that make use of Direct3D, and I suppose the performance drop is (at least in part) due to the translation of Direct3D to OpenGL in Wine. Now, this got me

How do I default to "Folder View" in my custom KDE user profile?
Hi, I'm currently busy tweaking KDE 4.14 on CentOS 7 to my needs. I want to use it as a base for an enterprise class desktop. In my humble opinion, CentOS' default KDE configuration is not very usable, so I created a default user profile that looks more like what openSUSE looked like a few years back. Here's the little script I'm using to install the various configuration files

Problem with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings + Ubisoft
Here's my main reply: http://pastebin.com/3zq1r9pF . Basically I say that two tools, WhatChanged and RegShot, might not only help this situation out, but help get other programs to work in WINE. Also, I have links to other places in there and explain a little about SecuROM and why you need the disc (or emulate a disc) to START the game, but you can take it out later. Myth 11 and WINE's

Trouble with directx games on wine-1.2 64 bit
Ever since the RCs and the release of 1.2, I have been having trouble with directx based games not working properly. They did work under wine-1.1.3x. The problems are: video very slow and jerky, about 1 fps, objects appearing as "tears" on the screen, missing some textures, and screen going blank during certain effects. System: 64-bit kubuntu-10.04, dual NVIDIA 9800GT w/ 512 mb, plenty

Witcher 2 on Steam
Hello, Can anyone run the Witcher 2 Steam version on linux? I can install the game, but I'm having problems with Steam trying to install vcrun2010. I got past the error by replacing the vcredits package in "/steamapps/common/witcher2/redist" with a random executable file and renamed it to "vcredist_x86.exe" - so when Steam runs that file and the file runs and exits without

dvdflick no longer works in wine
Trying to run the latest version of dvdflick (http://www.dvdflick.net) results in the program freezing and having to be forcibly terminated. The only difference I can make out between the new version and the older betas is the GUI. At some point the GUI changed and is now using 'xp styles'. The last beta that I could get hold of which worked was 1.3.0 build 616 and that had the older

I am posting this here because the other posters in AppDB say the game works fine. For me, the video is slow and jerky, not playable at all. Rendering issues with KDE (GeForce 7150M/nForce 630M)
In addition to bug 70972 (Modesetting failure at 1280x800), there may be another bug affecting the NVIDIA GeForce 7150M/nForce 630M. I think that this is a separate issue from the above. When using KDE or Ubuntu Unity with nouveau on this GPU, there were artifacts and missing UI elements. I think that this is probably more likely to be a rendering issue rather than a display issue. I am not sure
