boostrap an nls regression
Hello there
I have the following model based on the hollings disc equation for the type
II functional response for 2 data sets:
nls(eaten~(a*suppl)/(1+a*h*suppl)
where eaten is the number of prey eaten by a predator and suppl is the
number of prey initially supplied to the same predator.
I have parameter estimates of 'a' and 'h' for the two populations studied

Simple way to banish IP addresses ?
Hi,
I just set up a web server... and my bandwidth is being eaten by some
chinese folks trying to brute-force-ssh their way into the machine.
Is there a simple way to banish either single IP addresses or, maybe
even better, whole IP classes ? I know it's feasible with iptables, but
is there something more easily configurable ?
Cheers,
Niki

why doesn't "s" accept incoming call

Shouldn't "s" work here? Is it because the

OpenSSL 1.1.0j version checking bug in configure.ac [PATCH]
Hi, I've just found this issue - brackets are eaten by Autoconf.
Quadrigraphs [1] may be used instead. This way configure produces
correct error.

Issue with read.csv treatment of numerics enclosed in quotes (and a confession)
Dear Help-Rs,
I've been dealing with this problem for some time, using a work-around to deal with it. It's time for me to come clean with my ineptitude and seek a what has got to be a more streamlined solution from the Help-Rverse.
I regularly import delimited text data that contains numerics enclosed in quotes (e.g., "00765288071"). Thing is, for some of these data, I need

indexing for Wilcoxon test (take 2)
Hi everyone,
I've been asked to run a number of Wilcoxon tests on some behavioral data
(below is a sample). They want me to compare each trial to the first
trial, considered the control trial. I know I can use brackets to index and
select, for example, trial 1 vs. trial 4 (not exactly sure how to set that
up either) but it would save me a ton of time if there was a way to do all

disk space issues...any help is greatly appreciated
Hi all,
Please pardon my newbie-ness on this issue....I've a / partition which
is full (quite suddenly, actually) and I'm not sure how to fix this.
I've searched for uneeded logs, etc in /var/log and /tmp to no avail.
The system is CentOS 5.2 and is not connected to the internet, serves as
a local LAN server running stock stuff...sendmail, dovecot,
apache..nothing strange or

Wondering about CentOS 5.1 functionality
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi All,
I'm giving serious thought to loading 5.1 on my Inspiron 1501 laptop,
but I'm wondering about certain hardware support such as the following:
- - Broadcom Wireless Adapter - 1390 Wlan (bcm43xx)
- - USB (Pny Memory Stick - everytime on previous version CentOS has eaten
the damned things)
- - pptp vpn client(s)
Any comments?
thanks,

- detecting outliers
Hello all,
I am estimating parameters for regression functions on experimental data.
Functional response of Rogers type II.
I would like to know which points of my dataset are outliers. What is the
best method to do this with R?
I found a method via R help, but would like to know if there are better
methods for my purpose.
Here is the script I us now:

[O/T] undergrads and R
Dear R People:
Are your undergraduate students receptive to learning R, as a rule?
Most of the time, mine really like it. But this semester, they act as
though they are being eaten by rats when learning R. They are not
trying at all.
Any similar experiences? If anyone has any good ideas, I would be
THRILLED to hear them, as I am using R in Summer School.
Thanks,
Sincerely,

login: Missing Protocol from server name 'imap'
Hello All (possibly again)
I did send a messge earlier, but it may have been eaten by the mail
system. I've now managed to get dovecot started, and I'm now getting
"Missing protocol from server name 'imap'"
This is somewhat confusing. Does it mean that I have somewhere called my
server imap? or is it talking about it missing a protocol called imap?
if it's meant
