Microphone Problems
I'm having some problems configuring my microphone to work in Wine. It is a standard analog (not usb) microphone. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, Wine 1.1.38, and using the ALSA drivers in winecfg.
Although Wine detects my microphone, depending on how I set-up the mixers in ALSAmixer, Windows programs in Wine only pick up static or nothing at all. For example, Rosetta Stone 3.4.5, although able

Re: Rosetta Stone Microphone Detection
The original post in this thread was never answered, and I too was requesting help on the same subject -since as of yet, this issue remains unresolved.
So, to recap, Rosetta Stone is installed and running, but can't detect my microphone (analogue, or the USB headset that comes with the software).
Since Rosetta Stone is reported as fully functional under WINE, I am asking for advice, in terms

Rosetta Stone V 3.3.5 Microphone Detection
Hi, so I'm rather new to Linux. With a little bit of fiddling I was able to install Rosetta Stone (version 3.3.5). I'm running the latest versions of Wine and Ubuntu.
Everything in Rosetta Stone is working great, however, it can not detect my microphone (which is not a USB headset, it is built in). I can't think of what could be wrong, as the microphone itself works fine in Sound

Rosetta Stone Microphone Detection
All hail the day my audio problems with Wine stop! :)
So, to recap my system configuration:
hw 0,0 is my X-Fi
hw 1,0 is onboard Intel HD Audio
hw 2,0 is my AK5370 Logitech USB Microphone
I finally have all of these devices working properly in Wine, or so I
thought. Both sound cards work in Ventrilo and WoW. The Logitech USB Mic
works in Ventrilo, so it must be configured properly, right?

Re: Rosetta Stone Microphone Detection
Honestly, you guys are speaking jibberish. I have no idea what all that coding and stuff is, but I do know how I solved my problem without all the extra programs.
I found the answer. Rosetta Stone has a problem detecting the mics if the speaker input is not in some way connected to the mic. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I don't care and neither should you.
Follow these steps

Re: Rosetta Stone Microphone Detection
Thank you Rsay, it was a nice try, but I could not get this to work with my Logitech mic. For the record I have it (the microphone, that is) set up so that it works fine in Audacity.
After opining Wine configure, dmesg gives me lots of these:
[ yadda. yadda*] ALSA /build/buildd/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-2.6.24/debian/build/build-generic/sound/alsa-driver/usb/usbaudio.c:1345: 4:1:1:

Re: Rosetta Stone Microphone Detection
Sadly, I do not have an answer either, but I would also like to request help on this subject.
This seems to be a common issue, yet I can't find a resolution anywhere.

Re: Rosetta Stone Microphone Detection
Same for me @NeilWards. Logitech Clearchat Pro USB headset, Wine 1.1.3, Ubuntu 8.04, using ALSA (I've tried with and without PulseAudio) - headset works in other most but not all apps. However, I've never got it close to working in RS. I'm going to contact the RS people to see if there is a work around for the "autodetection" of the mic and post anything useful they might say

Audio detection issue
Hello,
I have a problem with my wine 1.3 installation:
I've just installed wine 1.3 but when I open the wine configuration window and go to the Audio section I receive the following errors:
"It's been found within the register an unavailable controler! would you like to eliminate "jack" from the register?"
"It's been found within the register an

Microphone in EQ2 2 devices
Hi,
I have following problem. In my Computer is an on board HDA Intel Sound Chip. This device has 5.1 out and an input connection for an microphone.
My TFT Monitor has also a build in microphone with web Cam connected via USB. The big advantage is, I don't need an separate Microphone or Head Set.
Both works fine under Suse Linux (Skype, or other applications that uses that microphone).

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
The problem started with speech detection. Speech sections are detected
well. However, once in a while non-speech sections are also marked as
speech. The root was finally traced down to microphone static noise.
Then I pulled the microphone out. Our system still records noise. To
isolate the problem, I wrote a small app just to open the device and
record raw samples, calls speex_denoise()

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
Take what I say with a grain of salt: I'm an amateur and haven't actually
touched Speex in any way, yet. I'm just sort of passing on personal belief
from personal experience. Also, check and make sure that the microphone
line is insulated.
There are a number of problems with sound cards picking up interference from
the host machine. The wires that run between ICs on a card

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
Thanks for the speedy response and detailed, enlightening explanation.
Now I understand where the problem is, and will try out your suggestions
just to further confirm my conjecture.
When I am done, I have to take the foil out, though. This is a product
for our customers to use, and although we've got budget for mulffing
every sound card we developers use, most likely the company

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
Understand that it's a *guess*. If this fixes or at least betters the
situation, you're going to need to find a legit way to insulate these cards,
or to switch cards. If it's for customers, I should hope you wouldn't be
using enamelled aluminum foil. :D

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
Hi,
I'm not sure how speex_denoise() works, but my solution to this problem
is fairly straightforward and works well in practice (in a simple VoIP
program.) Note that I am also an amateur and am making up some
terminology here... but I've tested my approach on several noisy
environments with low-quality mics and it does work well.
Problem: There's usually annoying noise present

Wine and microphone
I've been trying to get Skype to run under wine, and although the speaker works great, the microphone doesn't appear to work. Microphone works great from linux. Anyone have thoughts on how to get wine to recognize my microphone?
Running SuSE 9.0, wine-20040813-SuSELinux90.i586.rpm.

Lenovo T420 internal microphone not working
Hello,
I have CentOS 7.1 installed on my Lenovo T420 Notebook. Now I will start to have some online meetings for a software project. In Bios the I/O-settings for camera and microphone are enabled. Camera is working (tested with cheese).
In the audio settings of Gnome perferences I see an internal microphone which doesn't produce any input. The microphone is also not disabled by the key on
