Firefox on Wine as preferred browser
Not just for dogfooding, but because it's actually faster than running the native binary: The reason is not clear - hypotheses include MSVC++ builds being much better optimised than gcc builds. I'm sure people are investigating closely. Anyway, I just reinstalled Ubuntu 8.10 and put KDE 4.2 on top and *didn't* install the distro Firefox. No, I got Shiretoko (FF 3.1 nightly) win32

This is my wine day: subpixel-AA is here
This makes may day; it actually makes my week! I can't believe the genius wine developers have implemented subpixel font anti-aliasing in 1.1.12! All the apps look 100 times better now! I have opened Word 2003 about 10 times today just to look at the new beautiful UI! I have waited for this ever since I started using wine (~ 2006). This is my personal wine day! Thank so much, wine developers

Problem getting subpixel AA font rendering to work
Hi... I'm running Debian 5 (Lenny) and using wine packages from http://www.lamaresh.net/apt lenny main, which contains wine version 1.1.12. I've installed MS Office 2003 without problems, but when I start up word the fonts are choppy/blocky/what-have-you, but certainly not being AA. I came across a thread on this forum that suggested adding a file to the registry. I can do that on

Garbled/blurred fonts.
I installed office 2007 using this howto over on the ubuntu forum http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1102840 Everything went great. The programs run and seem to work fine, except that the old issue of wine not rendering fonts right occurs. This issue is documented here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1009930 The solution is to add "ClientSideWithRender"="N"

Subpixel font rendering in 1.1.12
The announcement for Wine 1.1.12 says that support for subpixel font rendering has been added. The question is, how can we use it? Is there a way to enable it globally (there's no such setting in winecfg).

tiff() and antialias option
I was wondering if someone could help with the antialias option in tiff(). I'm running R 2.9.2 on a Linux machine. I'm working on creating a tiff file and have tried different antialias parameters, e.g. default, none, gray, and subpixel, but don't seem to be seeing a difference in the output. Or perhaps I'm missing something obvious? Thanks, Andrew [[alternative HTML version

Font anti-aliasing in wine?
One of the things that DOES make a big difference for me is font-antialiasing (AA). (OK, maybe I am picky). Does anyone have experience/knowledge on that subject? What surprises me is that for a few fonts (BitStream Vera Sans, for instance), it is active, whereas it is completely absent for most others. Why is that? (BTW, I just found out that I get the best results so far for the new MS font

MSI failure while trying to install gmax
So I am trying to get back to finding the error in gmax, and I have to reinstall it because of the new machine and all. So I tried just putting it in after downloading it from TurboSquid. It complained about MSI having a major error, and quit, leaving me with a partial install. I got a panel suggesting this might be a problem with wine. So I used winetricks to install msi2. Failed again:

segfault when running heatmap()
Hi, I was wondering if someone in the mailing list has any insight into this segfault error that I consistently find when running a script containing heatmap() in R 2.8.1 and 2.8.0 on a Linux 64-bit machine. Some points: 1. This occurs when running heatmap(). 2. Interestingly, if I source() the script or copy and paste the script in its entirety, this error occurs. However, if I run the

[PATCH] Take shift in crtc positions for ZaphodHeads configs into account.
In multi-x-screen ZaphodHeads configurations, there isn't a one-to-one mapping of kernel provided drmmode crtc index to the index of the corresponding xf86Crtc inside the xf86CrtcConfig crtc array anymore, ie. for kernel provided drmmode->mode_res->crtcs[i], the i'th crtc won't correspond to the xf86Crtc in the i'th slot of the x-screens xf86CrtcConfig anymore, once
