Does Wine only work when Windows is on Drive C:?
I have a couple of triple boot systems. On each, Windows is NOT Drive C or Drive C is a useless application like Vista. This system is one where Vista is Drive C. The Vista stuff on drive C conflicts with the XP installation on Drive E.
All the applications I would like Wine to run for me are XP applications on Drive E. There are no Vista applications worth using Wine to run.

Getting my samba server to show up in browse lists
I've succeeded in making my samba server visible around the net, however
I can't convince the thing to appear in the browse lists on remote
subnets. I've read John Terpstra's article on configuring a browser at
	http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/docs/BROWSING-Config.txt
however my (admittedly willful) ignorance of Microsoft networking is
making this article seem rather

Question about Wine and windows compatibility
I am trying to find a program that will let me run programs designed for earlier windows (95/98) on Vista 64 bit (specifically Lords of Magic, an old PC game - the patches that make the game playable will not install on a 64 bit Vista OS). I know this is a cross platform sort of program, and was wondering if any of you knew if it would work. Thanks for any help or insight.

Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi,
This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista
clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba
configurations.
After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general
problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other
vista versions) in creating files and folders on network shares.
The problem

Browsning problems from Vista
I have a setup where a Vista machine that is behind a NAT connects to a Linux (debian) machine to access SMB shares on that machine. The connection is made with VPN using L2TP/IPSec. I have configured the Linux machine to act as WINS server and PPP will give the Vista machine a new IP on the same subnet and also tell Vista that the WINS server is the Linux machine.

I have added one share

file.access() on network (mounted) drive on Windows Vista?
Hi,
I have a writable and readable file on a small network file system
(Cisco NSLU2 Unslung; non-NTFS) that I access via a mounted drive on
Windows Vista. My problem could be due to a "funny" file
system/server, but here it goes:
> pathname <- "Q:/foo.txt"
> cat(file=pathname, "Hello world!\n")
> readLines(pathname)

Can anyone share any insight as to why Vista RC2 can't delete
directories on a Samba 3.0.10 share? No problem delete directories
using a windows XP client.
Thank you.

Can't install program to another drive
I'm planning to remove Windows completely, but before I exercise this option, I want to be sure that I can install/run my needed programs under Linux using Wine. Granted I've been with Windows since the beginning, but after my experience with Vista, I have had enough. So, currently I have a dual boot setup for the moment, using Ubuntu 11.x/ Vista Ultimate (64bit). I have three hard disks,

USB Thumb Drive Confusion
I am running CentOS 4.7. I have a USB flash (thumb) drive that has a
bunch of files placed there by Windows. I plugged it into the CentOS
machine, and when I listed the files under "/media/usb-name", there
was nothing there.
I created an empty file:
   touch blah
and it showed up when I did list it.
I noticed, checking dmesg that it was attached to /dev/sdb.
So I did a quick
