installing debian domu
Wow... this is hard. I just installed Debian Sarge and Etch into Virtualbox, and it''s dead simple - download a regular netinstall .iso file, and use the wizard, and it all just works. On the other hand, I can''t for the life of me figure out how to get a Debian (sarge or etch) DomU up and running. All the instructions I find involve running debootstrap, which of course is only

Ubuntu and sources.list question about mirror sites...
Evening all: Thought I'd announce myself with a question about setting up sources.list to be able to begin download and install of R. Running version 7.10 of Ubuntu. (Tried 8.04 but found it slow and finicky with my hardware. Perhaps will try 8.10 or above, but that's a thought for another time.) Followed the notes on the R site and added the following lines to my sources.list: deb

I get the error below (and have for a couple weeks now) when trying to build llvm-gcc on Ubuntu Feisty. In the meantime, on Ubuntu Gutsy, everything has been building fine. Both are release builds for x86. John cc1: StringMap.cpp:177: void llvm::StringMapImpl::RemoveKey(llvm::StringMapEntryBase*): Assertion `V == V2 && "Didn't find key?"' failed.

Hello all, I'm trying to run a synth editor (SY editor) under Wine on Ubuntu Gutsy. The editor runs fine it seems but I can't get MIDI in out to work, the editor gives me an error midi device not properly configured. [WoW + ATI HD 3850 + Hardy] Text problem
Hello, I've update my Ubuntu Gutsy to Hardy (7.10 -> 8.04) and Wine 0.9.somthing to wine-1.0-rc4. I've the lastest ATI proprietary driver installed. Before, I could run WoW without any problem in OpenGL except the buggy minimap when I entered in a closed area map (a tavern, or a cavern, etc.), the minimap became blank... (config: Gutsy, Wine 0.9.6, ATI Catalyst 8.1). Now, when I

[LLVMdev] New llvm-gcc bootstrap failure
> I am having the same problem. It was "introduced" by revision 54811, > so it looks like a memory corruption problem. Investigating. Interesting. Bootstrapping with gcac works! Some tests with valgrind also work. My next try is to add some debug code to do bounds checking in SmallVector. Cheers, -- Rafael Avila de Espindola Google | Gordon House | Barrow Street | Dublin 4 |

Wine almost immediately crashes X
Okay, so I've done the requisite searching around, and I'm either missing something unbelievably simple, or something funny is going on here. I'm attempting to run a couple of simple games under Wine 0.9.57 in Gutsy on my new System76 laptop. When I attempt to run either of them, the loading graphic comes up, but the moment they attempt to change to fullscreen, X crashes. No warnings,

Puppetd exits when "puppet" can't be resolved
Heya, I''m using puppet on Ubuntu (Gutsy/Hardy) and there''s a problem with the default setup of Ubuntu. Ubuntu uses network-manager to start the network in the background, which in turn causes puppet to start before the network is up. Puppet will then exit because it can''t resolve the server name. Currently I "solve" this problem by uninstalling
