how to fix consistent crash if mouse is not contained?
First time trying Wine.  Host is Ubuntu 8.10; I installed Wine 1.0.1 from Synaptic.  I'm impressed!
My wife has a set of "Nancy Drew" games she'd like to play.  They install fine, and seem to play, but if the mouse ever goes outside the Wine virtual desktop window, the game crashes and the following Windows-style dialog box is displayed:

how can I tell if a directory is using dir_index?
Hi,
I enabled dir_index on a filesystem and dumpe2fs -h also reports this.
My understanding is that this will be used for newly created directories
and that old directories can be indexed using "fsck.ext2 -D".
Two questions:
 - Is there a way to tell is a given directory is indexed or not? 
 - Is there a better way to index the root fs than to boot off a live
CD?

CentOS4 upgradeany hangs while loading sata_via
Hi,
I have a machine running under CentOS 3.4 which I want to upgrade to
CentOS 4.  I booted using the CentOS 4 CD1 using "linux upgradeany".
Problem is that loading sata_via never terminates.  Ismod shows the
sata_via module in state "Loading" while all others are in state "Live".
The dmesg output shows that the module gets loaded, sees two disks, then
prints info

I can get this game to install and launch, but it does not run properly or at all.
I have:
Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope AMD64 Alternate

Cedega 7.1.1

The game is best played with the expansion pack, Alien Crossfire. Alien Crossfire and Alpha Centauri are both available in linux versions, if you can find them.

Battlefield 1942 not Working correctly.
I installed it from the way it was described on a couple sites and they all seemed to be the same. I have updated it to version 1.6.19 and tried to go in-game. The menu's screw up and when I try to load a map, the game crashes.
Could I get some help?

I've been running a copy of SMACX installed in Windows on my C:/ partition from linux (Ubuntu 10.10).
After mounting the windows partition I only had to make the following changes to Alpha Centauri.ini to play the game:

How do I get the Wine *WINDOW* to grab control of my mouse?
Hi,
For some (most?) games the screen edges are used for scrolling/turning, etc. Running them in Wine is no problem in full-screen, but in Windowed mode the mouse just moves off, and if the mouse has been 'jerked' fast enough, it is left within the window some distance away from the screen edge. Meaning the window doesn't scroll/your character doesn't turn.

ALSA Sound Regression
Greetings,
I've used wine for several years now, but I've never really gotten involved with development so I'm not sure how or even where this would need to go.
I've found a regression in the latest (as of 1-1-09) git of wine; alsa sound doesn't appear to work. It did work from a version of wine I had cloned from git about a week earlier.  It also works fine in 1.1.11 release.

Wine hangs when creating initial configuration
Hi, I'm using Debian Squeeze and never had a problem with Wine (aside from application related stuff). I just updated from 1.1.37 to 1.1.44 and when running wincfg a dialog appears showing "The Wine configuration in ~/.wine is being updated, please
wait..." and hangs. When running it from the shell I get the following:

Bad COmpany 2 + Wine
So  just installed Ubuntu Desktop 10.4 . And I tried to install bad company 2 , it instaleld fine , It opens the update loading page, and after that ti fails and gives me an error about wine. I can't uninstall it now either
How can I either make it work or uninstall it?
Also: In Company of Heroes ( which worked from my old steam install ) it seems a lil laggy and the screen is chopy. any way

Gaming support with different hardware vendors (esp. ATI)
Hi all!
I recently got an ATI Radeon HD 3850 card and now noticed that with the 
fglrx driver many games that look well in AppDB do not run properly on 
this hardware (Supreme Commander ingame: flickering static garbage, Prince 
of Persia SoT has several issues that completely garble ingame graphics). 
Older games (not using shaders among other things) seem to run fine - need 
to do more testing

Some of the backends seem to be combining positional and named operands when defining some instructions such that some of the positional operands overlap with some of the named operands. I suspect this is not intentional; here's an example:

Extending the nbdkit python plugin
We have an nbdkit plugin that lets you write NBD servers in Python.
An example of an existing Python plugin is here:
