ASUS Eee R cookbook
Hi all, Having seen a few messages regarding the ASUS Eee PC (p701) and R, and then buying one and trying to get R installed on it, I thought there might be a few people on the list who would appreciate a cookbook on how to do it. It's a nice little piece of machinery, running Xandros 4 Linux (seems to be compatible with Debian Etch) and set up for the person who wants to do all those

Wine on Asus eee pc 900 running Xandros.
Hi. I?m totally new to all that is Linux and so on. But I really wan?t to learn more about this wonderful os. I?m using an Asus eee pc 900 and it came preinstalled with Xandros. Now I get a little confused on which version of wine (if any) will work on it. I tried to search the site/forum and web but I haven?t found any good answer. One more question. [Asus Eee PC 900] as replacement for legacy BRI phone
Hello, I own one of these netbooks Asus Eee PC 900, mine is running FreeBSD 7.0, and a Linux based cellphone, the OpenMoko Freerunner. Since some time I'm thinking in a replacement of my 'normal' BRI phone at home and the two items mentioned above let me think that the replacement should be UNIX based as well. The legacy BRI phone, around ten years old, even has more or less the same

R on an Asus Eee PC (step-by-step guide)
Dear All, A while back, the question was raised whether R would run on an Eee PC: http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e3/help/07/12/6564.html There were some positive responses and some suggestions for getting this to work: http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e3/help/07/12/7244.html For those who would like a step-by-step guide, here it is. I hope somebody might find this useful. 1) open up a

R on an ASUS eee PC, continued - installing packages
Dear all, I just went through the process of installing R on an eeePC 900 running Linux. As a Windows useR utterly ignorant about Linux, I'd never have done it without reading your posts and the R Wiki, so first of all: thank you! Next, taking up your thread from some weeks ago, I thought this could be useful for somebody else too, so here's what I did: 1) I followed wolfgang's

moving from Windows to Linux - need help
hi I've used R for many years on windows machines, but have now acquired an Asus eee 1000 linux machine. In order to get the best out of the machine, I used the 'pimpmyeee.sh' script, to get the full KDE desktop. The version of Linux is Xandros, which I believe is a close relative of Debian, but sadly I have only a nodding acquaintance with Linux at present. Naturally I want to

CentOS on Eee PC 1000H
Hi folks Anybody running CentOS on Eee PC 1000H? In CentOS wiki[0] there is a draft about Eee PC 900 from Fabian Arrotin. Does the same howto work for Eee PC 1000H? So far he writes: > Waiting for an official way to host the necessary rpms ... Where to download WiFi and NIC driver? regards Sven [0] http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Asus/Eeepc

IAX2 client for "eee pc 1000"
What kind of IAX2 client will install/run on EEE PC 1000 (stock Linux software)? I'll eventually replace this crippled Linux with something better but I don't time to play around with it as most divers and modules are still too new and not fully available in all distros. -- #Joseph GPG KeyID: ED0E1FB7

CentOS on the Asus Eeepc ...
We talked earlier on IRC about the Asus Eeepc I think the idea was to start a wiki page with at least informations regarding the Eeepc. So here it is : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Asus/Eeepc (not linked from the CentOS on Laptops wiki page yet though , still a draft ;-) ) I had to modify the installer initrd.img to include the atl2.ko module for the wired nic to install from my local

Lucid LTS: different Wine versions for 32 or 64 bits ?
Hello, I 've been using Wine 1.2 wjth Ubuntu 10.04-LTS an a 64bit Asus laptop for almost one year. In the beginning, everything worked OK (graphic refresh, focus, etc...). Now Wine works bad, I suppose some updates in Lucid do not suit Wine 1.2 (?). I tried XP mode, W98 mode (my applications are oldies ;-), but the behaviour seems bad in any case. On this laptop, synaptic shows Wine 1.2

Can't compile Wine for Asus 901
I have tried 1.1.7. ./configure says: You need to install Xlib/Xfree... devel. I have installed x11proto-core-dev, which deprecates 'x-dev', 'cos x-dev is not applicable. Is it possible to edit configure so that it makes use of x11proto instead ? I assume asus 901 has Xandros on it, but some say it is Linpus. Xandros has not replied anything, asus support they have no responsiblity of

Installing wine on an Asus EEEPC 901
I am trying to install wine on an Asus EEEPC 901. Every thing goes as expected until I receive the following FATAL error. What is the problem and what can I do about it? If I then try winecfg I receive the error messages further down. winefile appears to behave correctly but iexplorer remains blank even after Gecko is installed. Notepad appears to work ok. Setting up libwine-print

R on EEE PC
Someone asked about R on the EEE PC. That was the second thing I installed when I received mine (the first being the full KDE desktop). I don't recall any issues with the installation. I used the standard debian package (the native linux on the EEE is Xandros, a derivation of debian). The caveat being that since Xandros isn't *exactly* debian, there might be some issues, but I haven't
