Another patch of win32-service for nice startup.
Hi,
I believe this patch would be a perfect solution for a lengthy
initialization application.
Added hStartEvent, service_init, checkpoint increments.

"Unable to open file..."
I already have Wine working under Linux, primarily to run Quicken. I'm
trying to run TaxAct 2000, without success. Starting TaxAct, I get
the TaxAct splash screen followed by an error box stating
"Unable to open 2000 Tax Return File.ta0". The filename contains
whitespace as shown.
The debug message log shows an attempt to open the file:

Calling CreateFile on an instance of File - possible?
Hi all,
I''m going over win32-file this weekend. I''m creating instance methods for
setting (or unsetting) the various file attributes. So, you can do
something like:
f = File.open("foo.txt")
f.archive = true
f.hidden = true
f.close
This works for the basic attributes, but it requires extra work for others.
Specifically, I am having trouble trying to set the

problem with delphi bde app
Hi,
I'm trying to run some old delphi application, which uses BDE to connect
to an access mdb file.
The application displays an error, that it couldn't open the database.
I can run BDEADMIN and I see that database aliases are configured propoerly.
I did some winedebugg'ing and noticed following mesassages

Playing with NtQueryInformationFile
Hi all,
I''m trying to get the allocation size of a file via a file handle
(rather than its name). The example below works for FileNameInformation
but I can''t get it to work as expected for FileStandardInformation.
Here''s some sample code:
# query_test.rb
require ''windows/handle''
require ''windows/error''
include Windows::Handle

Adding title to colorkey
A recent paper on visualisation (in Neuron, a leading neuroscience
journal) surveyed how well previous articles in this journal labelled their
graphs (e.g. axis labelling and describing their error bars). Of
particular interest is that (only) 40% of plots labelled what their
colorkey was showing (variable and units).
The paper is at http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.neuron.2012.05.001

Using callbacks with ReadFileEx
Hi all,
First, I just realized I''ll need to go back and fix some of the
prototype declarations for windows-pr. The callback parameters will now
need to be set to ''K''. ReadFileEx is one example of this. For purposes
of my question, let''s assume ReadFileEx has been declared like so:
API.new(''ReadFileEx'', ''LPLPK'',

Patch to add buffering to decoding too
Removed buffer size increase. Only tells the filesize to Windows now.

EverQuest - worked once, but no more
I had a previous install on another computer with the following, and EQ worked perfectly there, with the following configuration:
Laptop: HP dv6355
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (UMA)
Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 (1.8 GHz)
Memory: 2 GB
OS: Ubuntu 8.04
Wine: 1.1.4
Unfortunately, the computer was formatted and given to someone else, so I can no longer compare the configurations or run any tests

Some thoughts on win32-changenotify
Hi all,
As things stand now, you can do something like this with
win32-changenotify:
require "win32/changenotify"
include Win32
filter = ChangeNotify::FILE_NAME | ChangeNotify::DIR_NAME |
ChangeNotify::LAST_WRITE
cn = ChangeNotify.new("c:\\",false,filter){
puts "Something changed"
}
cn.wait
You can pass a block that''s executed when a change occurs, but

Making redirecting output with win32-process a bit easier

Prototyping the Dir class
Hi all,
I''ve been prototyping a Windows-only Dir class for Ruby. Below is what
I''ve got so far. The class methods were easy, except for Dir.glob. The
code in dir.c is just nasty, and I can''t help but think that it could be
heavily refactored. I did come across this link:
http://www.codeproject.com/file/fileglob.asp
But I haven''t investigated it yet. Anyone

win32-file, overlapped added
Hi all,
I''ve got overlapped and offset support in both nread and nwrite. The only
thing left before I want to release this (as 0.4.0) is to get NO_BUFFERING
to work. Unfortunately, I can''t get it to work.
Park, I looked at that site you sent (and borrowed some code from it), but I
don''t see anything special happening for NO_BUFFERING. I thought it

Patch to build hivex lib on Windows
Hi
I'm just posting this here in case someone is interested in building
hivex on Windows (mingw32). The attached patch allows building the lib
but not the tools (hivexsh etc..) as there are some more problems to solve.
In short terms, this patch replaces file i/o functions and mmap(),
munmap() with their win32api pendants.

GetFinalPathNameByHandle for XP and earlier
Hi all,
How''s this look? I based it on
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366789(VS.85).aspx.
I''m undecided as to when I should raise an error versus when I should just let
it fall through, but this is how it is for now.
You''ll need the latest windows-pr from CVS, btw.
Regards,
Dan
PS - Where should I put it? In Windows::File directly? In a separate helper
