Fatal server error: DMA queue hang
Greetings.
I have an aging GeForce4 MX ( integrated ). I just updated to
Ubuntu-8.10 without considering the consequences of moving to
xserver-1.5. Needless to say I won't be using Compiz for a while now ...
So I've tried to get nouveau drivers running ( I've been watching the
project, but mainly waiting for a release ... now my hand has been
forced ). I used the packages for Ubuntu

need help to find bug
hello everyone!
I'm using samba on OpenBSD and there is unusual behavior in it!
The problem is [homes] share, it erroneously map nobody as a home share
for guest user.
I noticed this with upgrading from 4.15 to 4.17.
Please have a look at this simple config:
---
[global]
map to guest = Bad User
[homes]
browseable = no
writable = yes
---
With this config I have this listing:

old bug with usershares of what?
sorry for opening this thread again, but it looks like there is some bug in
samba usershares.
I successfully reproduced this bug in OpenBSD and in Fedora.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Use default samba config.
2) Add options:
usershare max shares = 5 (or else number)
usershare allow guests = Yes
3) create usershares directory (personally i use directory path from
testparm -v)
4) create group usershare

The credentials conflict with an existing set of credentials
Hi all.
Today my samba server, which has been working fine for quite some time,
is not allowing me to mount shares on it.
In Windows, I get the error:

Installing MS Office problems
Greetings.
I'm trying to install MS Office ( 2002 ) using wine-0.9.40. I have
followed various HOWTOs floating around, including using ies4linux to
pull IE and related stuff. I'm stuck on:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5163
Are there any known work-arounds?

Hello,
I have tried starting uTorrent with wine.
This is a freshly installed Debian (Etch) 4.0.
I get the error 1114:
I start it with Putty (I am using VNC as well, have gotten the same error in xterm)

Re: Can't install IE6
Hi awdoyle,
I too wanted IE6 installed for the purpose of Outlook Express and its mail handling, particularly with folders as I have many. (...disregarding alternative clients with add ons for the moment)
I know IE6 can be installed using Codeweavers Crossover Linux app (based on WINE). With this install, OE is also installed. (You need to manually create a link to the .exe file)
I currently

Re: Can't install IE6
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your reply, I don't necessarily want "Outlook Express". I want an email client that can manage folders within hotmail, and will synchronise with the server so I can access the same mail from another machine (i.e. work) via the web.
If there is another free mail client that provides that functionality for hotmail, I will gladly use it.
I agree that there are

Segmentation fault during compilation
Hey everybody,
I've been trying to compile wine since version 1.0 and have gotten crashes during the make command, about 20 minutes in. Very frustrating.
I'm running Fedora 9, and I believe gcc version 4.3.0.8. Is this a gcc problem? If so, what can I do to fix it?
Output of failed make command follows...
gcc -c -I. -I. -I../../../include -I../../../include -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -Wall

MySQL Workbench
MySQL Workbench is starting to look nice, but hasn't run on Linux for
quite a while. Does anyone know if it's possible to get it running in
Wine at the moment?
I built 0.9.56 and tried to run MySQLWorkbench.exe from the zipped
binaries. It complained about .NET. So I installed
mono-1.2.6-gtksharp-2.10.2-win32-5 into wine. Now I get this in the
console:

Vampire and spaces
Hi all.
I'm having another go at using the vampire functionality to move our NT4
domain to samba. I've hit the same problem as 3 years ago - spaces in
names ( group names for us ). I believe there are some useradd scripts
floating around that deal with this, but I can't find them ( spent 1/2
an hour on google, honest ).
Does anyone have one handy? How about adding scripts like

Office XP - possible to install?
Hi all.
I've *never* been able to install Office XP. I've had it running in
CrossOver ( demo ), but my work is too stingy to pay for that, and yet I
still want to install Office. At the moment my VirtualBox installation
is becoming flaky.
I've updated a fresh Ubuntu-8.04 installation to wine-1.0-rc1.
I've then followed the instructions for installing on Gentoo ( install

cannot locate roaming profile
Hi all.
I've just installed samba-3.0.1-rc1 as a PDC and I can add computers (
win2k ) to the domain, but when users log on, they get an error:
... windows cannot locate your roaming profile ...
or words to that effect.
My smb.conf is:

server string = Samba Server %v

Domain authentication not working
Hi all.
I'm trying to share a printer out via samba, and it's suddenly stopped
working. Samba says it's connecting to the DC, but then returning
NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER. It wasn't doing this earlier today. I haven't
changed anything in the top half of the smb.conf file ... only the
print-related stuff. Any ideas?
The log is saying:
