Problems with NTFS...
My sincere recognition for the great work developed when making Wine.
I am having a problem with the version 1.2-rc3; specifically I cannot write (from applications that they run in Wine), toward NTFS partitions; the strange thing is that I can read and until erasing files (from the browser of Wine or from Xplorer2 for example).
If I run Ltspice for example, I can load without problems the

Using LVM snapshots to backup NTFS partitions for windows guests
Hi everyone!
I''ve been reading this list for a while and I''m thinking that the best
way to do backups is using LVM snapshots as discussed here several
times.
The problem is that when i use a LVM logical volume as windows disk,
windows writes the partition table onto the LV so the LV itself is not
a partition - it''s a whole disk.
lvm/device-mapper does not create the

Can't figure out how to put wineprefixes on an NTFS drive
Hi,
I'm still a bit new to Linux and Wine, so please bear with me if this is a stupid question.
I've been putting all my windows applications in their own wineprefixes, and now I thought I'd put some of them in my data partition, because there's always lots of free space there and many of my games take a lot of space.
But when I try to create a new wineprefix on my data

installing centos with oos ntfs format drives
greetings.
i am going to run a fresh install of centos 6.4 and want to mount 3
partitions of oos that are formatted as ntfs in an oem installed box.
if during install, i set up partitions /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2, and
/dev/sdb1 as ntfs, will install install ntfs software or will i have
to select it later on in installation?
also, is it better to mount them under /mnt to keep /media clean?
tia.

problems mounting HPFS/NTFS domU partition
Hello,
I''m not able to mount a HPFS/NTFS domU partition.
My system:
dom0 is on a debian (Lenny) machine, using xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-i386 Xen
Hypervisor.
domU is a Windows XP machine, that works well.
My target is to mount file system domU machine (when domU is not active).
In my domU configuration file I have:
disk = [''phy:/dev/virtual_machines/xp_disk,hda,w'',

Changing from NTFS to ext3
I want to convert all my NTFS partitions to ext3 since I'm no longer
running Windows, at least on my main machine at home. I'm planning to
tar the NTFS partitions to an existing ext3, reformat the partition as
ext3 and untar it back.
What is the best way to accomplish step two of this - reformatting the
partition? I've only done this so far during the installation phase,
and that

Hi,
I tried to mount NTFS partitions to my CentOS installation. The message
is: "mount: fs type ntfs not supported by kernel"
Is any possibility to mount it? Maybe I should load some kernel module?

Mounting LVM contained ntfs systems.
Using CentOS 5.4 Xen Virtualization "stock install"
Added rpmforge NTFS extension for mount command.
Scenario: Have mirror dd'd off to "backup" unmounted LV contained
Windows machine. Within the LVM volume are two NTFS partitions formatted
by Win2k8.
Issue: How can I mount this? I need to verify file existence and run
batch of file compare checks.

That's not been my experience... gparted does use ntfs-3g to work on NTFS
partitions (what linux-based tool doesn't?), but does not by default set

How to share WIN partitions from SAMBA (Dual boot) Srvr to WIN clients?
Hi all. I am a pretty new user, but I now have two networked PC's, with
LINUX (current Slackware distro, kernel 2.4.22?) with dual boot with WINXP
(Prof), and a networked WINXP (Home) client machine.
Here is my problem, stated as succinctly as possible:

box to access WIN(XP) partitions on another machine that is

hey, I'd hang up, too. I don't trust in-place partition shrinking, no
matter WHAT the software.

CentOS 6 (G)parted re-aligning existing partitions?
I used Hiren Boot CD (Some tool on it) to create 8 partitions for
Windows XP and CentOS 6.
Now, CentOS6 Disk Utility reports for first partition:
"Warning: The partition is misaligned by 512 bytes. This may result in
very poor performances. Repartitioning is suggested.",
and similar warnings almost all other partitions.
Since I already have both Windows (NTFS) and CentOS 6

NTFS support?
Is is possible to include NTFS support in syslinux, so Linux
could boot from NTFS partitions?
Of course syslinux itself would support just read-only access; the
writing to NTFS (in order to store ldlinux.sys or whatever) would be
done by mounting the partition using ntfs-3g.
I understand this could be non-trivial, so I'm willing to spend some
money on this ... suggestions welcome.

Samba clients can't see partitions mounted via loop device from image files
Is there something special about filesystems mounted via
the loop device, which prevents Samba from sharing them?
I have a small LAN with several PCs on it. It has a
few Windows machines, and a Linux machine running
Mandrake 10 (kernel 2.6.3), which shares out its root
("/") read-only as "c".
(Temporarily, for testing, it is shared with full write
permissions, which I know

Good catch, thanks a lot. Does it only disable from official rhel/centos RPM with `XXXX-RHEL-7-Reject-use-of-libguestfs-winsupport-features-.patch' in libguestfs while it still work in upstream source code ( e.g. rhel-7.2 branch in https://github.com/libguestfs/libguestfs ) , which option need to enable windows VM ntfs and guestmount command support when i make configure to

I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It
complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested
installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I
did that, now I still get:
dependencies failed:

Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for
gnumeric?

NTFS to NTFS backup

I am running rsync version 2.6.9 under Ubuntu 8.04.
I am trying to backup a NTFS partition to another hard drive formated

The problem is that rsync first deletes all files on the backup disk
and then copies everthing again.
I am using the following command and it still doesnt work, and also
