Winelib Getting Started 1.3.2. Test Drive
Hello,
Would a wine developer please revisit this page
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winelib-guide/winelib-getting-started and
modify it to have a step by step guide to take a Linux box without wine nor
winelib to a running notepad exe built by the newbie (and not downloaded)?

Winelib Test Drive
hi,
maybe somebody can help me.
At the moment I'm reading the "Winelib User's Guide" and I also tried out the "1.3.2. Test Drive".
Almost everything work. After changing the Makefile it compiled with no error.
this is my result when i start the created notepad2.exe.so

Installing 64-bit app onto 64-bit wine
I have 64-bit Ubuntu and two programs that can be installed as either 32-bit or 64-bit. The programs are Notepad2 and Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.
I run both now with 32-bit but have been told that 64-bit is getting better, so thought I'd try.
I compiled 64-bit Ubuntu without a problem, and it runs Notepad just fine, but does not run Notepad2 (which just has one exe and does not need to be

regedit.exe notepad.exe and other wine substitutes
Hi,
Wine provides a variety of applications in the programs/ dir.
this include notepad, regedit, regapi, aviplay, ...
This programs (AFAIK) implements the windows equivalent of their
.exe with winelib.
However, some applications try to run c:\windows\regedit.exe,
notepad.exe and fail.
My question is, in a windows free environment, if I rename those
applications (to a .exe extension and its .so

a cups printer working? Yes I know the wine docs say it's all magic and if
you're using cups your printing will magically work, but for some reason, it
doesn't, my wine session crashes and burns when I try to print from the
built in notepad (or any other apps I've tried: in particular, Lotus

No they can't be run directly on Linux. All Wine's programs are winelib (notepad, wordpad, winecfg, etc). Go ahead and run then directly (without Wine).
Again I'm not talking about a binfmt magic with witch you can run even java programs "directly".

wine notepad - simple Wine failure
Hi,
Someone mind verfiying this simple test? Using wine-20041019 run
wine notepad
Notepad comes up. Choose 'Page Setup'. Dialog box comes up. Choose OK.
Dialog box does not go away. Choose cancel. Dialog box does not go
away. Only way out (for me) is to dismiss the box in the upper right
hand corner controls.
Does anyone know what the origin of this version of Notepad is?

MIDI tools in latest wine, success and ...
Latest and greatest Jammer Pro6 works in latest wine from Debian Sid. No more
phantom subclassed buttons! Fantastic.
Caveats:
1. MIDI timing seems unsteady.
2. Button on a pop-up dialog that would repaint and replay the MIDI on the
main view does not work. See below.
Ntonyx Style Enhancer 4 will also install and play in wine!

Japanese text in menu is not displayed
When launching a Japanese program with LANG=ja_JP wine program.exe, the
Japanese text in parts of the application isn't displayed. Below is an
screenshot of wine's notepad.exe, running in the ja_JP locale:

Winelib/MFC questions
Hello.
I am working for a company with a complex (commercial) MFC application that
we wish to port to Linux.
I have read the guide to compiling the MFC and I have a few questions (hope
this is the right place to ask them!):
- Is it necessary to recompile MFC? Could we not just distribute the same
mfc42.dll file as we use under Windows and use that?
