Problems with fonts on linux using GDD
Hi
Apologies for this question.
I have read the help for GDD and font mapping, and it tells me that the
config file, /usr/lib/R/library/GDD/fonts/basefont.mapping is
responsible for mapping fonts to the GDD library.
However:

MS Office Word - small fonts are aliased
Hi,
I installed MS Word 2007 on Debian Lenny using the latest Wine 1.3.20 - everything seems running ok. The only thing that I don't like are the fonts.
I enabled with winetricks the font smoothing, but....
Some of them (Times New Roman, Calibri, expecially) still look aliased at given dimensions (12pt and below): increasing their size solves the problem and they become anti-aliased, but this

TrueType fonts, 3d modellers and wine
Hello,
Many 3d modellers can use TrueType fonts to create 3D objects of words.
Lightwave and Behemont are two that spring to mind. I can't find any on
linux.
However, both lightwave and behemont give me the error:
fixme:commdlg:CFn_WMInitDialog No font found with truetype only,
dropping flag
This is after the font has been correctly displayed in a "font
selection" box. The

Does anyone know of any programs capable of fine tuning my screen
display settings? I'm using the NVIDIA drivers, and everything is
slightly blurry - regardless of how much (or little) I set anti-aliasing to.

Symbol Fonts under Wine
Hello!
I have a specialized math typesetting programming that uses its own
special symbol fonts. The fonts are TrueType. I am using XFree86
version 4.0.1 running on FreeBSD 4.2, with the FreeType module loaded.
All of my regular TrueType fonts work fine with X programs and under
Wine. The symbol TrueType fonts work fine with X programs (such as
xfontsel or xfd), but under Wine, many of the

I have just installed Centos 3 and I can't help notices that the fonts are blurry. I have been using RH9 and then Fedora and the fonts there are fine, But Whitebox and Centos seem to be blurie. Can anyone tell if Cents has the Byte-code interpreter enabled in Freetype?
Thanks all.

Problem with grid's text-based units and TrueType fonts
Hi all:
I'm using grid to create a layout in R that will include text mixed with graphics. In the layout, the positions of certain graphical elements depend on the number of lines in adjacent text blocks (which will vary from case to case). I was hoping to use grid's built in functions to automate the placement of the graphical elements. I can get this to work if I use the standard pdf

X11() and XFree4.1.0 (and probably also MS truetype fonts)
Dear all,
I updated ('almost' painlessly =) ) the XFree version of my suse
distribution 7.1 (could not wait any longer as the screensaver was
crashing everything with irregular periodicity)... I have now Xfree 4.1.0
running (with OpenGL 3D going through the Mesa library), and I downloaded
MS truetype fonts (as suggested by Mr. Suse).
R seems to work... except (so far) the output of the

png(type='cairo'): point symbols without boarders are not anti-aliased?
Hi,
It seems that anti-aliasing in png(type = 'cairo') is not well
supported for the point symbols without boarders, e.g. pch = 16. The
Cairo package works well, though. You can compare png() with
CairoPNG():

Freetype fonts
Wine cannot find the FreeType font library. To enable Wine to
use TrueType fonts please install a version of FreeType greater than
or equal to 2.0.5.
http://www.freetype.org
I always get this message, however I do have the freetype font library
linked to as libfreetype.so in my /usr/lib32 folder, this is the only
library Wine can't seem to find... any solutions?
Thanks

Desperate: problems with fonts, I can not make it work
I am trying to make wine run with a couple of windows
applications and there is no way I can get normal fonts.
All I get is little squares instead.
I have set up a directory
/home/username/.wine/fake_windows/Fonts
that has quite a few .ttf files that I got from my Windows98
partition. I have also set up chkfontpath to the right path
(please see attached files). Then what can be wrong? I

Problems with graphical devices, e.g., png(), pdf(): blurry graphical output
On my current home system, I am getting undesirable output from
graphical devices such as png() and pdf(). The graphical output is
blurry. I haven't experienced the problem on other systems. As you
will see from the attached text file (more information on this file
below), the problem does not occur when type='Xlib' is forced. The
blurriness is more severe with bitmap output (yes, I am

How do you specify font family in png output; png cross-platform issues
For teaching purposes, I prepared a little R program. I want to give
this to students who can run it and dump out many formats and then
compare their use in LaTeX documents. I do not have too much trouble
with xfig or postscript format, but I've really run into a roadblock
where png files are concerned.
My original problem was that the png device does not accept a family option.
How can I

Truetype and Opentype font in pdf device
Deal all,
I want to know if truetype or opentype fonts are available in pdf
device (i.e., pdf() or dev.copy2pdf()), and if so, how to do it?
Now I can do as followings:
1. convert ttf to afm using ttf2afm, e.g.: $ ttf2afm Impact.ttf > Impact.afm
2. put the afm file in $R_HOME/library/grDevices/afm
3. register a new type1 font: pdfFonts(Impact=Type1Font("Impact",
