Is there a way to protect Wine?
This may seem weird, but is there a way to ensure that an installer cannot destroy your wine files? I have a game that, I think, may try to install some weird directX stuff without giving you the option, but I'm not sure, and I don't want to ruin my other games. I installed it once and Jazz Jackrabbit 2 stopped working, but that may have been the cause of something else. So...what can I

Directdraw and Wine Compilation
Hi, I am trying to compile wine in an AMD64 Ubuntu machine, taking the precautions needed shown in the winehq's wiki to do it. The compilation finishes fine, but for some reason there is no support for some things that used to have in the i386 pre-compiled package. One of them is ALSA sound. I use ALSA because for some reason OSS sometimes ruins the sound making it look like a loud scratch

Wine with Voodoo5 card, using Glide
Hello: I've got a PC that I just set up with Fedora 10 that has a Voodoo5 5500 AGP card. I have the Glide3 drivers installed, and Glide is working with X11 just fine with DRI. My question is, how do I get Wine to use this card in Glide mode (not DirectDraw or Direct3D)? I have seen posts about installing Glide wrappers in Wine with other Nvidia and ATI cards, but do I need to install the

Windows DirectDraw?
I just tried to install an ancient detective-type RPG ( I am not up with the classifications.) (a) It offered to install DirectX. Since Wine has its own DirectX, I ignored that. (b) The game failed to run because (according to the message box) it couldn't find DirectDraw. This showed as a Fixme in the terminal, while the error message was to do with the display settings - there was no mode

NeverHood won't run [Unable to initialize DirectDraw]
I just installed the old game The Neverhood into WINE, and it won't run. On start up it pops up the following dialogue boxes: DDERR_UNSUPPORTED and Unable to initialize DirectDraw. I have it set to run in Windows 98 (like the how-to from the AppDB), and I've tried it with both Vertex Shader and pixel shader on and off. I installed the DirectX that came with it. I keep getting the same

DirectDraw problem
Hello all, I am trying to install an application done in Java, but in a kind of very Windows-Centric Java. The installer is InstallAnywhere. There's obviously a problem with calls to DirectDraw, both with the installer, and with the application itself if I try to run a version installed on Windows. When I try with the builtin ddraw.dll, the messages are :

DirectDraw error and mouse stuck in the corner
Hello all, I was installing Thomas the Tank Engine (for my son, not me) and ran into 2 problems: - Unless I added "Desktop"="1024x768" to [Software\\Wine\\X11 Driver] in user.reg, the program would give a DirectDraw error. Is there a better way to fix this error? - The mouse works, but it keeps returning to the bottom right corner. I applied a patch (settings.c.diff), which

Wine and opengl error!!!
Hi all, I'm having trouble running windows games from Fedora 9, 64 bit, using wine rc3. I've tried Command & Conquer 3, Age Of Mythology and Jazz Jackrabbit 2. All games fail. I mostly get an error saying that direct3d9 won't work without opengl. However, I have opengl. I've run glxgears and it runs fine. Following is the output: 8877 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1775.333 FPS 9327

Hype: The time quest won't install.
Hype is a Win95/98/ME 3D action game that has always been a favorite of mine. The demo installed fine, so I decided to get my full copy and try it out. For some reason, when it tries to install, it gives this at the beginning: fixme:vxd:VXD_Open Unknown/unsupported VxD L"sice.vxd". Try setting Windows version to 'nt40' or 'win31'. However, that goes away and it starts

fastthread 0.4
fastthread is a library which replaces the synchronization primitives defined in stdlib?s thread.rb (Mutex, ConditionVariable, Queue, and SizedQueue) with optimized versions which: * are much faster (in the non-contention case, speed comparable to direct use of Thread.critical or Thread.exclusive) * don?t leak memory (the stdlib implementation of Mutex manages to

Need a directdraw fix on Ubuntu 10.10 to play Diablo (1)
I would like to play Diablo, the original, on Ubuntu 10.10 but loks like there is a problem with Direct Draw. There are fix for earlier version of wine but, they are way outdated. Could someone help me with this please :)

fastthread 0.6.2
It looks like I got too creative in 0.6.1 and consequently ran afoul of a bug in the Ruby interpreter. 0.6.2 works around the bug and should be entirely stable at this point. Thanks to Young Hyun for his help in coming up with test cases. == what? fastthread is a Ruby library which provides a faster (and non-memory-leaking) C implementation of the concurrency primitives from stdlib''s

Sorry, if I miss my question, but I can't find any answer in the web. Hype The Time Quest Regression
There's an old Ubisoft game called "Hype the Time Quest". For many Wine versions, Wine could not get past the Hype installer. It would go up to 117% and fail. Then a version came where if you unchecked the DirectX check, the install would work (or maybe that's all you had to do to begin with). But the game would fail to start with an error about MaiD3Dvr_bleu.exe. Then a Wine

Purpose of DIB Engine?
Hello again. Today I got following question: What is the purpose of DIB Engine? Is it to speed up DirectDraw apps, or is it to add missing functionality for DirectDraw ?emulation?? I'm asking this because I recently tested few DDraw apps (Fallout2 and Happyland Adventures) with DIB enabled and... well for HA there was now significant speed difference, and Fallout2 slowed down even more :( .
