Possible to change mouse sensitivity?
Ever since I replaced the mouse that came with one of my computers with a
Logitech MX1000, I have noticed that I have difficulty with accurately making
small movements with the pointer in X because it moves so fast. I have played
around with the mouse preferences, and using 'xset m', but neither one gives me
what I want. When I do 'xset m 1/4 1' I get about what I consider to

Setting log(0) to 0
Hi,
I'm trying to do a regression like this:
wage.r = lm( log(WAGE) ~ log(EXPER)
where EXPER is an integer that goes from 0 to about 50. EXPER contains
some zeros, so you can't take its log, and the above regression
therefore fails. I would like to make R accept log(0) as 0, is that
possible? Or do I have first have to turn the 0's into 1's to be able to
do the above

Win2k clients problem after updating system
Hello all samba users and programmers,
Since I changed my system and reinstalled samba funny things happen in my net. I used to work with a Gentoo system and now I've got installed a Knoppix 3.2 Debian, but by now I don't think it's interesting for the problem I've got.
What I did was:
- install samba 3.0.0-final
- copy the old smb.conf file to the path in the new system

Printer Device Modes
Greetings Admins,
The howto details setting the device mode using a windows client:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/printing.html#id2552900
Is there a way to script this process? We support 260+ printers and
it's a pain in the ass. (My wrist is hurting!)

Dear R-help,
I am having trouble with the predict function in lasso2. For example:

> predict (l1c.I) # this works is fine
> predict (l1c.I,Iowa)

Radeon 4800 or Ati in general viable for wine?
Longtime lurker and user of wine, but I'm about to replace my old nvidia card with a newer model and seeing as Ati is open sourcing their drivers. I was wondering if I should get a 4800 card, but only if the fglrx or x86-radeon driver is up to the task :)
Like can it run direct3d 9 games like Eve?
How about 2d performance in games like fallout 2 and planescape torment?

Danish callerid on a x100p card
Hi
I've got a cheap card from x100p.com for my pots line. I haven't found a
definate answer if it is possible to get danish(DTMF without signaling
before it). I have had a look at bug #9 but that is
written longtime ago.
I am running zaptel 1.4.7 and asterisk 1.4.14 BRIstuffed 0.4.0-test4 both
from the xorcom debian packages. I believe they should contain some kind
functionality for DTMF

Call a script after every file modification
Is there a simple possibility to hook in a script which is called every
time a file is modified via smbd, e.g. a user is adding a file via samba
share? The script should get also the filename too :-)
The intended purpose is to duplicate the write operations of samba to
another disk. Yes I know there exists RAID and Rsync and other software,
but I want to use it for longtime archiving purposes,

Kernel:[Hardware Error]: use of vacuum

It's a good idea, especially in low-humidity climates. Also noteworthy:
the air moving through a hose can cause a vacuum's hose or attachment to
build up a static charge, which is another reason it can be a bad idea
to use a vacuum in a computer.

New Introduction
Hi all,
I''ve just rewritten the Puppet introduction from scratch:
https://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetIntroduction
I think it''s better, but I''m not convinced it''s a whole heckuva lot
better.
Comments are very much appreciated, especially if you can recommend a
better approach to the document. I tried to organize it how I have

[LLVMdev] [IMPORTANT] Mailing list Move & Downtime (Tuesday, August 4th)
On August 4th (~9AM PDT, exact time TBD), all LLVM related mailing lists will move to a new mailing list server and will change to listname at lists.llvm.org. LLVMDev will probably change to LLVM-Dev to preserve consistency.
This means a couple of things:
1) All mailing lists will be down on August 4th. We anticipated at least the full day of downtime (hopefully less if things go well).
2) SVN

Dovecot Oy merger with Open-Xchange AG
To Timo and the Dovecot guys - congratulations! I'm sure this merger with OpenXchange is going to provide you with a lot of resources and opportunities.
As a longtime user of dovecot, I do have a few concerns. I wonder if you can answer some questions for me.
You say that OpenXchange really likes open source and shares your plans for the future. Is this a commitment that future versions

PGLM Package: Starting Values for Within-Model
I am currently using the PGLM package and I would like to implement a
within-model. Unfortunately, I do not succeed as I am not a big expert in
panel regression.
I am using the example data set from the PGLM package:
library(pglm)
data('Unions', package = 'pglm')
anb <- pglm(union~wage+exper+rural, Unions, family=binomial('probit'),

understand GEE output for wald test
Hi
I'm having some difficulty understanding my output (below) from GEE. the
person who wrote the program included some comments about the '3-th term
gives diff between hyp/ox at time..', and after created an L vector to use
for a WALD test. I was wondering if someone could help me understand the
GEE output, the programmers comment, how L was determined, and its use in
