Surround Sound and EAX
Hi there, I've been searching for a while now, for an answer, whether or not EAX and surround sound is supported in wine. And all I've found are contradictory opinions. So, still I can't get neither to work, and I hope, this is the right place to ask for help. [Wink] As I understood it, wine should be able to play surround sound, when alsa is able to do it. Surround 6ch sound on Wine?
I use Wine for play World of Warcraft, that support on Windows, 6 channel sounds mixing software. On Ubuntu 8.04 and Wine i get only stereo output. I've tried to do this .asoundrc for "force" use on Wine, of 6channels and I don't get any sound. Code: pcm.!default { type dmix ipc_key 1024 ipc_key_add_uid false # let multiple users share ipc_perm 0660 # IPC permissions

Surround sound and Creative EAX in Wine
Hi, When using the Alsa output device, is it possible to configure it to use a surround sound output, like "surround51" or "surround40"? I found a few references on the internet, but nothing clear. They talked about the deprecated wine.cfg, or registry keys I don't have. The winecfg utility also doesn't allow changing any useful audio setting in this regard.

Surround Sound
Hey folks, As I understand it, the vorbis codec had support for a channel count > 2, but that it didn't explicitly state the channel binding for channels 3, 4, ... . I'm assuming that with enough fiddling, it would theoretically be possible to use a 5.1 stream encoded into vorbis. From what I know of the CELT codec, it handles either only mono or stereo. Is that correct? -- Kip

True surround sound for Ogg -- a proposal
Hi everyone, Over the last two weeks or so, I've been thinking about how to add surround sound to Ogg -- and more than that, to do it in the best way possible. With this in mind, I started considering using Ambisonic surround sound. The advantages of this format are considerable: a) It was developed in the early to mid '70s, so the patents should be expired by now.

5.1 surround channel coupling
>Yesterday I have finished writing the ambisonic pan filter for oggenc. May I ask what this "pan filter" is? I made some tentative suggestions for coupling Ambisonic B-format in a post "Vorbis Ambisonic coupling" on 4feb07 I gather from the last monthly meeting, that some of you, including Monty, had problems with the phase behaviour of B-format. Would anyone like a

5.1 surround channel coupling
It obviously would be nice to have such a mode available, for e.g. DVD audio compression. Apparently, the list doesn''t tell me too much about it. My questions are: 1. What is the current status of the 5.1 channel coupling in Vorbis? 2. If I''ll be interested in participation in its development, what is the recommended reading? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Only stereo instead true 5.1 sound in World of Warcraft
Hi, Im trying to get World of Warcraft to sound the same way as in win xp - i mean in real 5.1 - no duplicating channels in alsa etc... Problem is that WoW in Wine 1.1.2 detects only stereo mode as SESound.log file in wow logs says: Code: 8/18 16:22:22.509 - Detected Control Panel Speaker Mode = STEREO 8/18 16:22:22.509 - Setting WoW Speaker Mode to STEREO but in winxp WoW detects real 5.1

Does Ogg Vorbis support 5.1 surround?
Hello everyone! Please bear with me, I am a complete audio-newbie, and I apologise if I am asking a question that I should know. As most of you all know, DVD's have 5.1 audio, and I want to preserve that in my voribs files. So, to ask the question : Does it support Surround sound? Thank you very much!

Ogg audio surround-sound
This came out of the OggPCM discussion, but I think it needs to be addressed on a wider scale. Let's start here, 5 years ago.. http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/vorbis-dev/2000-July/009513.html (I included this email, below) I emailed David (author of that email) and asked him to join this list. I'm thinking, as I look at the problem, that surround sound needs to be defined _outside_

FLAC and Surround
Hello, I'm new to this list, and I would like to know about the current status of FLAC and surround formats (5.1, 7.1). I know it is possible to compress interleaved multichannel files with FLAC, but does it in any way have any multichannel matrix, that collects common information from all channels and use this when compressing? If not, wouldn't it be a great idea to have this feature!!!

EAX sound
Hello people! I have GTA:SA installed and i have encountered some problems with the sound. After googling around i've discovered the problem is EAX. That is a sound engine GTA uses. I can hear the radio/police radio, but i (almost) can't hear sound effects (walking, shooting, explosions etc.). I discovered it is a problem you can stop by turning sound acceleration off in dxdiag.exe, but

Multichannel files
Hi, As I´ve understood things, the Ogg Vorbis format supports more that two channels (stereo). Is there any tools to encode x sourcefiles into one .ogg file? I am a musican and am thrilled with the ide of makeing music in surround (or in more than stereo). This leads to my next question: is there (developing) any decoders for multichannel oggs to, let us say, 4.1 or 5.1 surround? Wouldn´t it

No sound with alsa and Nvidia HDMI
Hi, I cannot get wine to recognize my audio device (Nvidia GT210 w/HDMI). No other sound card is enabled. The right device for sound is hw:0,3. Alsa's speakertest works fine. Pulseaudio is completely removed from my system. Also Wine's pulse package is removed even though the trace still has some references to pulseaudio. Winecfg displays only MIDI devices under ALSA. OggPCM proposal feedback
Hi all, Siliva contacted me about this OggPCM proposal and asked me to join in. For those who don't know me, I am the main author and maintainer of libsndfile and therefore know quite a bit about how uncompressed audio is stored in sound files. However even I would not consider myself an expert; there are areas to do with channel assignments that I know I am ignorant of. I am also quite

Increasing number of channels?
Per https://xiph.org/flac/faq.html#general__channels currently FLAC supports 1 through 8 channels. This is fine for 5.1 surround sound (6 channels). But some of the newer surround sound systems can handle many more channels. Is it still convenient to have all of the audio channels in one file for, say, a 16 channel audio track? I don't know much about the history of FLAC. How did this

Define 6.1 and 7.1 channel mappings
I vote for documenting the --channel-map option in the --help I don't like the idea of rejecting a multichannel file merely for mapping, so there should be a documented option plus an error message pointing to the option. This should compare to the WAVE and AIFF errors where the utility suggests to the user how to get the file converted safely. Brian Willoughby Sound Consulting On
