Problem with directsound / Gothic
I am currently trying to run Gothic 1.08j on a Debian wheezy amd64 based machine using PlayOnLinux or just the plain wine installation. The game runs in generel but only if sound is disabled. To get sound working, AppDB and other tutorials advise to get the native directsound dlls and add overrides to the wine configuration. Whether I download the dlls and add the overrides manually or use

Gothic 3 - problem with start menu
Greetings, once there was a time when Gothic 3 ran poorly on wine but had no difficulties with displaying the start menu. Now, with a fresh ~/.wine, the trailers behave nicely but when it comes to the start menu, it is not displayed. A significant error line regarding this is: fixme:d3dx:ID3DXFontImpl_DrawTextW (0x394fd18)->(0x39ce150, L"Neues Spiel", -1, 0x32e078, 5, 0xff000000):

Since wine 1.9.11 - How to get rid of the new bar below the game window?
Greetings, beginning with wine 1.9.11 I have a new bar below the game window which effectively steals part of the usable area. Here is a screenshot of Gothic I. http://www.triffids.de/pub/screenshot/wine-1.9.11.png (931 KB) No desktop environment here, only IceWM. My games are started with shell scripts which cd to the directory of the game and then run 'wine program'. In the case of

Centos 5.0 Intel G33/P35 Chipset Support (Asus P5K-VM, P5KC)
I have 2 new boxes that I cannot use yet because of problems supporting these newer chipsets in 5.1. Does anyone know when the CD version of 5.0 x86-64 that has support for these chipsets be available on any on a Centos mirror? Has the support for these chipsets been added to yum yet? Here are my latest results with these chipsets and Centos 5.1 1. Asus P5K, E6850, P35 Chipset: Does not

Wine and fonts (...unknown registry...)
Hello NG, my Wine ran fine so far. As I installed new fonts yesterday (type1 converted out of MS truetypes) to use them with StarOffice 5.2 Wine only starts with a lot of fonts failures and exits with failure code 1. Below is an extract out of the messages. Can anybody help me with that? I already replaced my ~/.wine directory and let winesetup create a new one - nothing changed. I replaces

SimCity 4 + RH easily crashes with addons and heavy city.
Hello. First, thank you a lot for Wine. It is really a fabulous project and ex windows users like me really say you thanks a lot each time we use Wine. Second, I have installed SimCity 4 (with the help of PlayOnLinux) and its expansion pack Rush Hour. Many things worked quite well. I would say this game almost works well. But here are my issues : - Game easily crashes with a heavy city with

a question re. /var/run/samba/unexpected.tdb
Not having paid any attention, I discovered that this file grew to be 1048518656 bytes (this on a debian-based Linux system), and filled up the (small) filesystem for /var. Is there a 'normal' size that I should expect for this file ? What could be the reason for the large size? And how could it be best reduced? (There was a suggestion of stopping samba, removing the file, and

Cursor in steam visible..
I downloaded and installed Gothic 2, and I got it to run fine. However, I can always see the cursor in the middle of the screen. This is mostly due to the fact that Gothic 2 doesn't have a cursor (you scroll through menu's with the wheel, the rest is controled through keyboard). A similar glitch appears in KotOR, where it flickers between the games cursor and the system cursor, but that I

'Program Error' dialog box
I am running a windows executable, using wine, in a 'batch mode' - ie multiple times with different command parameters to the executable. For some parameters, the 'Program Error' dialog box appears and the wine process does not continue until the dialog box is closed. Is it possible to suppress the dialog box such that the entire batch can be completed without intervention?

[Mass Effect] I feel myself awfully tired
Hello everybody. A have spent 20days+nights trying to get my Mass Effect work on wine some way... As you can easilly predict, with no success. It was hard time with up to 6 combinations of display driver, 24 or more versions of wine and endless chain of winetricks and attempts to do without. >From the point I can say I am very hard on doing something and with my brains, fingers and Google
