Ubuntu (Wubi) + Wine + Steam
Does it work? I've been trying to set up Steam under Wine for two days now but to no avail, I've got the Tahoma font, the Gecko engine and also tried with the .exe and .msi and nothing :( Using this guide (http://thepemberton.com/posts/archives/13), when I have to type "wine SteamInstall.exe -dxlevel 90 -novid" on the terminal all I get is this: > preloader: Warning:

smbd daemon running as wrong user ID
Hello, I have a strange problem affecting samba-3.0.10-1.4E.12.2 on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 system. We have a multi-domain configuration here at University of Verona (Italy). We use Samba as PDC for several faculties. Each faculty has its own daemon instance and its own smb config file: [root@ldapvr1 ~]# ls /etc/samba/smb.* /etc/samba/smb.conf

multinomRob - error message
Hi, I would like to use the multinomRob function to test election results. However, depending on which independent variables I include and how many categories I have in the dependent variable, the model cannot be estimated. My data look like this (there are 68 observations): > head(database) RESTE09 GAUCHE09 PDC09 PLR09 UDC09 MCG09 RESTE05 GAUCHE05 PDC05 D1 1455

[LLVMdev] ccbench: compiler shotout benchmark script
Hi All ! Recently in the mailing list there was the question about benchmarking LLVM. I was told that LLVM get's benchmarked in the nightly test. While this is true, I wanted to have a tool to compare LLVM against other compilers, so I wrote a little python program (attached) that filled my need. It is completely outside of the LLVM makefile framework, but this stems from the fact that I

problems when exec()ing /sbin/init from an initramfs
This is an early userspace type question. I have an initramfs that does some root device setup, then tries to mount the real root partition and exec /sbin/init to start the real userland. It seems to do what I want, except that bootlogd hangs while mount /proc. I can't seem to figure out why. I'm booting with init=/bin/bash. bash is dynamically linked, and the appropriate libs are in

Icecast protocol
Well I'm writing my own source client to automatize song selection, decoding/encoding and maintaning a few tasks on my website (listeners requests, current playing song and playlist, etc...) I've understood that basically icecast protocol is http, then pure ogg or mp3 data. I've found a lot of usefull library (JOgg, JFlac, etc). Thanks for the help, I'm digging into

re: Samba up, but not listening
I am confused by this paragraph: > I have looked at the Redhat firewall. I have even > tried copying its smb.conf file to no avail. smb.conf has nothing to do with the Redhat firewall. I use ipchains but Redhat likely used a more advanced firewall, that I can't really help you with much, if that is your problem. Joel

[LLVMdev] Whole program alias analysis in backend
Hello everyone, we are planning to implement a stronger alias analysis for backend, because e.g. for VLIW architectures, this is our main performance limitation. I would have 2 questions regarding this. I know that backend processes one function at a time, is it somehow possible to do there a whole program analysis, or could you give me some guidelines? Which alias analysis algorithm

infelicity in `na.print = ""` for numeric columns of data frames/formatting numeric values
format(c(1:2, NA)) gives the last value as "NA" rather than preserving it as NA, even if na.encode = FALSE (which does the 'expected' thing for character vectors, but not numeric vectors). This was already brought up in 2008 in https://bugs.r-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12318 where Gregor Gorjanc pointed out the issue. Documentation was added and the bug closed as

Dumb Question about Domains and PDC's
Dumb Question... What is the value of a Domain in a small Samba-server environment? Why is it better than a "security = user"? What are the drawbacks of a Domain in a small (singleserver even) environment? Thanks!

*** Asterisk Sunday News: Off track with 1.0, moving forward
Thank you very much for all feedback on Asterisk Sunday News! This is the last issue for June. This week I'll go on holiday and will be back with more news in early July. My kids are getting summer leave this week and we'll be visiting the south of England for a while. Another part of Europe that still use their own currency. If you think there's an European standard, you're
