XP user priviledges with Samba
I've read the achives, but I'm not finding anything. On XP, I can give a local user admin priviledges on his/her local machine when they are logged in to that machine and not the domain. How do I do this when they are logged in to the domain, with Samba as a PDC? Some programs need to create tmp files that they can not if the the user does not have admin privs on his/her machine.

Samba Domain Administrator
Hello everyone. I'm using SAMBA version 3.0.9-2.3-SUSE as a PDC and internal mail server (few users in user list) for quite some time and so far so good for what i wanted (Domain logins, shares, users files and backups). My problem is when i need to install software or hardware on a machine (client of the domain - Windows XP Pro). As the users don't have administrator priviledges on their

Vista on domain... can Samba join without Administration priviledges?
Hello there, I have a machine on campus which used to only have Vista. The admins set up (in Vista) an account for me on the domain and given me administrator rights (on the local machine). Linux/BSD alternatives are a no-no here so I did the maverick thing and installed Fedora. But I would like to have access to domain resources from my GNU/Linux partition if I can (printing is especially

Multiple Group permissions with Samba
I have been trying to get a straight answer on this and hoping that someone can help me out. This is my current configuration (simplified) and what I need. We have 4 directories. Call them directory "a, b, c, and d". We also have 4 groups. Lets call them "admin, user, exec, db." We would want "amdin" group full control over all directories. Next we want group

Samba 2.2.5 & Domain Administrator
Although I will be updating this server to Samba 3.x soon, I have to come up with a quick solution as soon as possible for the following problem: I have a WinXP user which currently is registered as a "User" of WinXP but must be changed to "Domain Admin" in order for some new software which he must use to be operable. Of course giving him the root passwd is definately out of

Can't change permissions for /var/spool/postfix/dovecot.index.log
For some reason i can't change the permissions on /var/spool/postfix/ dovecot.index.log from postfix to dovecot, or anything else. I changed all the files in /var/spool/postfix to be owner postfix so that postfix wouldn't complain about insufficient priviledges. I'm running MacOS X 10.4.7. I can change it all I want, but the owner and group changes do not 'stick' - they

Error using 32-bit R and RODBC package on 64-bit Windows Server OS with R version 2.10
I am receiving an error when trying to connect to the Oracle Database using RODBC on a 64-bit Windows Server OS. The version of R is 2.10.0-win32.exe Is this the wrong version. Does RODBC only work with 32-bit ODBC drivers? 've read over all the posts and documentation manuals. The system is Windows Server 2003 with R 2.81. and the latest downloadable RODBC package. Add a preamble to documentation
Hi list, hi John, having seen last week a post (see http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?m=107341768923846) that remind me some quirks I encountered, I'd like to see a preamble added to the chapter 12 of the howto. It concerns the diffent types of admin you will need in a PDC setup. I say preamble, but it could be found anywhere else, as long as it could be found (I have lost long hours

Vulnerability in vixie cron?
Hi, Recently there have been advisories and patches for SuSE and RedHat (and probably a few others) regarding a vulnerability in Vixie Cron. The details say that there's insufficient checking of the return value of setuid, which can lead to priviledge escalation and lets users run cron jobs with root priviledges. As far as I know, FreBSD also uses Vixie Cron (at least the cron(8) manpage

Unable to install program: admin rights not continued
I am new to Wine so this may just be a stupid newbie trick. I did search this forum, the FAQ, and the documentation and didn't see this problem mentioned. I am attempting to install WordPerfect from CDs on a new Ubuntu setup. It appears to initially work (after asking for the root pwd) then it pops up an error "You do not have administrator privileges on this machine. Setup cannot

Hi, I've been looking for this information, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a samba (2.2.3) on debian (woody) and I mean to configure this server with winbind so it can authenticate domain users. The PDC is at a NT server. My question is is very simple ... what are the *exact* privileges I need to give the user I use to join the domain? Winbind docs says use

domain admin
Hi ! I'm desperately looking for an answer here... I've been fighting all week-end with samba-3.0 and there's still something I can't do... Basically: how can I add some of my users to the Domain admin group ? I use FreeBSD-5.1+samba3.0RC3. My group maps: Admins du domaine (S-1-5-21-xxxx-512) -> domainadmins Utilisa. du domaine (S-1-5-21-xxxx-513) -> domainusers Invites du
