Does it work?
I've been trying to set up Steam under Wine for two days now but to no avail, I've got the Tahoma font, the Gecko engine and also tried with the .exe and .msi and nothing :(
Using this guide (http://thepemberton.com/posts/archives/13), when I have to type "wine SteamInstall.exe -dxlevel 90 -novid" on the terminal all I get is this:

Steam on wine 1.0.1
Hello,
I've recently installed wine without any special modifiers, I did it through the add/remove programs on Ubuntu 9.04. Steam installed without a problem, but will not run. After it was done installing, it gave me the 'updating steam' box and then just quits with no error.
Here is the output of the terminal window while installing:

Steam Installation Errors
Hey guys, I'm sure that this question has already been answered. If so, could someone direct me to the answer. The problem is that, steam.exe cannot access the Internet. My Internet service is fine, and I have not had any problems with steam accessing the Internet in the past. The problem only started a few days ago, and I am not sure what the cause is. I have tried basically everything. I

The path /usr/export/XP shared for MS Network as XP and mount via

odd steam install location?
I am trying to track down a crash in Steam (Steam itself, not a game
through it). In following appdb instructions for Steam I realized that
it was installed in
/home/tparker/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam/drive_c/Program
Files/Steam/steam.exe and not in :~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files> where I
had expected it, although that second directory does have a
SteamInstall.msi sitting in it but

Installing steam to my wine prefix?
The only way I know to install steam is via winetricks, the steaminstall.msi doesn't seem to work, at least not out of the box.
I'm trying to install steam, and succeeded, but it installed it to ~/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam, whereas I normally install stuff to ~/.wine. How do I make winetricks install to there?
I tried "winetricks steam prefix=/Users/Cole/.wine" but that

Could not find CLSID for Windows Script
Hi!
I have gone a bit further with the installation of Python with Wine.
I have downloaded http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcirt and placed it in the .wine/drive_c/windows/system directory.
And I have run
msiexec /i python-2.4.msi
within the .wine/drive_c directory.
The Python setup windows pops up but when selecting the "Destination directory" I get the

UNDI NDIS DOS Driver
I found the 3Com one, but I'm looking for the intel one. The PXE PDK
doesn't have it anymore, and the intel site points me to the proboot.exe
archive, which has no *.dos files in it. Does anyone know of other generic
drivers for dos that work with memdisk's keeppxe option?

How to start R in mac with the current directory as the current working directory?
Hi,
I installed R on mac (see below). When I start it from a terminal by
the following command, the current working directory is always '~' no
matter where my current directory is in the terminal. I'm wondering if
there is a way to make the gui R on mac inherent the current directory
from the terminal.
/Applications/R.app/Contents/MacOS/R

Can you please send my bug report to the right place, or tell me what

dos filemode not working (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)
dear all,
switching from 3.0.22 to 3.023b, we can't get the parameter "dos
filemode" to work (giving members of a group with full control the
ability to change the acl's). in previous versions we were using "acl
group control" which served well (now marked deprecated).
