HowTo run Monkey Island 4 with wine
Hi,
because nobody was able to tell me why I wasn't able to run Monkey Island
in wine I now tell you what i did to get it running:
I have installed wine with the transgaming directx patch (which is not
necessary for wine). Monkey Island defaulted to DirectX when I started it,
but the Transgaming Patch is yet not good enough to run MI4.
To get it running you have to to the following:

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition from Steam
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a Thinkpad T500, I believe I'm using the integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics that come with it. I'm using the default WINE install, I think version 1.1.42. I'm trying to run Monkey Island 2: Special Edition downloaded from Steam.
It actually sort of works. It installed just fine. When I first ran it gave me a blank screen and that was it.

installing/running Monkey Island 3 and 4
I have problems running Monkey Island 3 here. Installing it works fine,
but the problems comes when trying to run it. When pressing "Play Game" (I
think that's what the button says), the program just wants to install
DirectX 5.0. I guess that trying to install it is NOT an option, when
you're using wine.
Second, installing Monkey Island 4 is not successful, because you have

wine and Monkey Island 4
Hi,
today I wanted to start Monkey Island 4 with wine. I'am using cvs version
of wine from today (04.Feb.2001), I also patched the transgaming directx
patch into it.
My system: SuSE 7.0 with KDE2.1beta2, GeForce 2MX with 0.96 NVidia drivers,
Soundblaster PCI 128 (ES1371) with Kernel drivers.
I use wine with installed Windows. My startup command is:
wine "c:\Monkey4\Monkey.exe"

Secret of Monkey Island SE, steam on wine, crashes on start
I'm wondering if anyone can help me?
I'm trying to run Secret of Monkey Island special edition in Steam on wine with Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. I can install steam and use it to install the game (after it installs directx), apparently with no problems, but when I try to run the game, a window opens saying "Preparing to launch The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition". Curse of Monkey Island doesn't work with wine 0.9.24
I installed the game like it is described in the WineHQ application
database. The installation worked without problems but running the game
produced the following error message:
Cannot create DirectSound object (-2147467259)
I got around this by switching off OSS sound and using ALSA instead,
but know I have the same problem that Erich Hoover mentioned in the
AppDB. The music starts to play but

Tales of Monkey Island
Hello everyone...
Although it says in the AppDB that this runs flawlessly, I haven't been able to run it...
Installation goes fine and I also add the missing DirectX dll to the system32 dir. But, after running the game there is only the white window (although I hear the sound, so I guess it's not frozen).
These messages appear in the terminal:

_NET_WM_FULLSCREEN_MONITORS hint (YAY!!)
Hiya Compiz list! I am a Linux UI dude for VMware as my day job and am
working on improving things in Workstation and Player with regards to
multiple monitors on Linux. Some of my colleagues worked with the
xdg/wm-spec folks just earlier this year to get the
_NET_WM_FULLSCREEN_MONITORS hint into the EWMH spec to address the needs
applications have in needing to be both fullscreen and spanning

COW and unredirect_fullscreen_windows
I'm using Compiz 0.3.2 on Gentoo with the Nvidia 9626 beta drivers.
First off, I would like to state that Compiz is very, very nice. The effects
are very tasteful and enhance the desktop experience instead of being
distracting. Compiz itself works great, the animations are smooth and it's
very nice that it now uses the Metacity themes.
The only reason I'm not using Compiz full time

Re: Installing VC++ 2005 SP1 Redistribution using wine
Don't want to start a new thread, I think its the same problem. I use ubuntu jaunty and wine 1.1.26, I tried to install secret of monkey island SE which needs vcrun2005sp1 to work. I tried both manual and winetricks but when I run the game I get;

Recently i have worked on re-writing beryl's transparent cube, and
ported 3d plugin to compiz.

patches (i'll post the 3d plugin when i fix some problems that didn't
happen in beryl).
Patching order: btf-ftb.patch, clip-planes.patch, plugin-events.patch,
cube-paint-order.patch, transparent-cube.patch.

unredirect_fullscreen_windows
Is that option working?
With compiz 0.3.0 it worked but fullscreen apps (like Quake 3, Unreal
Tournament 2004, ..) didn't get any mouse input then.
With compiz 0.5.0 it doesn't seem to have any effect (eg. fullscreen
apps are lagging, because of the redirection).
AIGLX, NVidia drivers 1.0-9755.

problem when starting steam game dead island
Hi guys,
I need some help..
I purchased the game dead island and tried to run it using the information on the appdb, but apparently, the game just hangs itself.
The terminal output:

I created a new wineprefix, wine version was 1.5.5.
Apart from the things the installer installed (d3dx9, vcrun2008, WMF), I also installed wmp10 via

[1.3.20]-Capture The Mouse Works Great. Suggestions...
Hi,
I've been crying for a long time about mouse issues
while running a full screen game in an emulated desktop window,
but with newest Wine these issues are gone.
Would it be possible to have some hot key
that the user can press to uncapture the mouse?
For example, VirtualBox toggles mouse capture
by pressing the right [Ctrl] key on

Building Compiz
Hi Folks,
I work at VMware, where I'm making the multi-monitor feature new in Workstation
6.0 (just released!) more robust. Long story short, window managers don't
consistently expose a good way for a single window to go fullscreen across more
than monitor, which is what we need to do to display the monitors we expose to a
guest virtual machine. So we've proposed a new hint for
