To come clean at the very beginning of all this, I'm a very new Linux user - my Windows XP computer decided to destroy itself and so Ubuntu was my only choice in lieu of buying another copy of an already shoddy operating system. Because the Baldur's Gate 2 CDs do not have copy-protection, I simply copied their contents into a single folder in c: within wine's invisible directory.

I run Ubuntu 10.4 and Wine 1.2 Everything works fine, I had no problems with installation but during the tutorial (I haven't tried elsewhere) when learning about casting spells I am told to click 'rest' but this results in a blank, black screen. I am using Fedora 8 with Wine 1.0 rc3. The game seemed to install ok. I did a full install. When I try to run baldur.exe from the wine menu in KDE I get a splash screen opening up with the options to install, exit , configure, update and demos. QuickTime installer works fine and QuickTime player comes up, although it wants to be fullscreen most of the time (something to do with strange mouse click handling I think).
