Re: Which Wine Download?
Zac,
I tried your PCLinuxOS script and I am getting the following error messages
configure: error: X development files not found. Wine will be built
without X support, which probably isn't what you want. You will need to install
development packages of Xlib/Xfree86 at the very least.
Use the --without-x option if you really want this.

Wine Gecko 0.9.0
The announcement of Wine 1.1.12 mentions a new version of Wine Gecko, version 0.9.0. I have two questions:
1. What version of Gecko is this based on? Will this improve the way installed apps render pages?
2. How will this affect existing programs that have Wine Gecko 0.1.0 in their Wine environment? I have the old cab file in /usr/share/wine/gecko which gets installed whenever I wineboot. Will

Running legacy batch files
I have several batch files from my windows installation that I've been using for many years, and I wonder what's the best way to transfer them to a Linux machine, without having to rewrite them as shell scripts.
Some of these batch files call DOS programs and some call Win32 console programs. Unfortunately I have a few that has calls to both a DOS and a Win32 console program.
The problem

Why is wineprefixcreate deprecated?
I understand that it is applied automatically when needed, but there are times when one would want to run it manually. An example is when I want to literally create a new wine prefix such as
env WINEPREFIX="/home/bamm/apps/myprog" wineprefixcreate
to prepare a clean profile for future installation of myprog. I know that running setup with a WINEPREFIX would create the clean profile,

Wine 1.0 release date to clash with Firefox 3
According to http://wiki.winehq.org/WineReleasePlan the new release date for Wine 1.0 is set to June 17.
However the Firefox 3.0 release date is also set to June 17.

Their release is planned to be high profile and they even plan to set a Guinness world record for downloads in a single day!

problems with games
I've bought my 12 yr old son a used laptop (Dell Latitude D600) and convinced him to use a version of linux unstead of Windows. The laptop came with PCLinuxOS release 2007.
He really wants to be able to run some of his games, so I used the Synaptic Package Manager to install Wine. The version available for PCLinuxOS was Wine 0.9.58.
So far I've tried two games, and I've struck out

IE with winetools (wine ver. 0.9.9)
I tried installing IE6 using winetools, this failed for some reason.
after several attempts i found IEs4linux, which installed IE5 and IE6
for me with no hassle, can i get winetools to recognise this install?
because it won't let me install other software at the minute, or could
someone give me a hand in getting winetools to work with the original
IE6 setup?
cheers!

Start recording during call by pressingbutton sequence
Zac,
Thanks for the input. This would cover it, however it is not stealth.
In some cases, you may want it to be stealth. Again, my state allows me
to do this, but some states do not. I've done a little searching and
could not find an answer. Basically, to simplify the question: When is
it legal to record interstate calls without giving notice, when the
recording party is in a one-party

[PATCH] Add support for the 'unless' matcher in the dynamic layer.
Even if it still did add overhead, it seems perfectly reasonable, from a
user's perspective (namely mine), that if I introduce unnecessary narrowing
matchers to my chain that there may be a performance penalty.
The ability to do the following easily outweighs any performance issues for
me:
anyOf (
/* hasName("..."), */
hasName("...")
)
though C++ not allowing

aniMoutm/foiegras Assistance
Hi all, I am receiving the error *Newton failed to find minimum* whilst
trying to fit a move persistence model in this package. I think the error
is related to the optimiser in the TMB package but it is beyond my
statistics/coding knowledge to track down the specific cause and solution.
I would appreciate it if anyone knew some resources to assist with fixing
this. I have put a MRE and sample data

Davka Writer
I am a new Linux and Wine user. I have successfully installed Wine in PCLinuxOS, and it is able to run an old Legacy program from Parsons Technology called Address Book.
I then used Wine to install an old version of Davka Writer, a Hebrew word processing program. The program appeared to install correctly, as far as I could tell. The installation required a serial number, which I have.

Mac downloads at http://releases.llvm.org/download.html recently requiring latest MacOS
I described this off-list to Zac, but for anyone else who is following, simply specifying the target triple is not enough to have the build system set an older macOS deployment target. I.e the 6.0.0-rc1 binaries I've just uploaded have the same deployment target problem.
Looking at the 5.0.0 and 6.0.0-rc1 binaries, I can confirm that their deployment target was too new:

[PATCH] Add support for the 'unless' matcher in the dynamic layer.
I was wondering if there is any objection to removing the 2-element minimum
on the eachOf, anyOf and allOf matchers.
It is frustrating when playing with matchers to have to edit significant
amounts of code to be able to temporarily go from 2 to 1 matcher inside an
any- or allOf matcher.
And overall it feels very "un-set-theory"-like.
