Wine fails to load programs
Here is a extract of my posting on Ubuntu forum that so far has not solved my problem: "I have been using Wine and the programs for the past 12 months without any hitches under 32bit 8.04 and 8.10. I did a clean install of 64bit 9.04 and installed wine and the programs I need to run. It behaved oddly right from the start and then just stopped. You can see the program trying to start, and then

MailWasher weird almost progress
...just guessing at the "reloc" error, I added the path to the exe to the PATH variable, and it worked... once. Also tried copying the twp dll's listed in the debug dump from the pc mount into the wine system, which made those not show up in the debug dump, but it still choked. Anyone have any pointers on using winedbg? Thanks, -mike --------------------------------- Do you

using a cross partition WINEPREFIX
I have been told that the way to utilize the somewhat strange way my Ubuntu is set up is to use the WINEPREFIX. I have some windoze programs that need to know about each other so they need to be in the same drive_c Here are pertinent specifics of my system: > > root at kayve-laptop:/media/2c512d2e-fcf5-4ef5-8200-e3c79a8a1aca/home/kayve# mount | grep ext4 > /dev/sda6 on / type ext4

cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\Command.com"
Trying to install Quicken Deluxe 2009 with the latest Wine 1.2 release on Ubuntu Lucid. I keep getting errors, the first of which is: Code: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\Command.com" Also get this dump and trace output (http://tinyurl.com/2w43tws), which was a bit too long to embed. There were some popups too, that I didn't capture. According to the DB, the app is rated

Having Wine In A Different Directory?
I would like to have wine's user directories in '/home/wine' but when I try to set the command ?wine WINEPREFIX=/home/wine ... it fails. I've tried it with other variations too but to no success. The directory is already created at '/home/wine' with root/user permissions, and I'm a member of the user group. Most of the information on the internet is either old or

Wine taking unacceptably long to start up (Fedora 14 x86_64)
Whenever I run any application with wine it takes upwards of five minutes to start, even apps included with wine like wine cmd. I have been googling this for hours and cannot find anything really applicable to my situation. I am running Fedora 14 x86_64. I don't have a network printer. As far as I am aware fc-cache-32 doesn't exist on Fedora. I am trying to get some other program to

Switch for pixel shader?
I haven't owned windoze in a few years and decided to dust off a few old favourite games namely Oblivion and GTA San Andreas For Oblivion I need to turn on pixel shaders in the winecfg app When playing GTA I have to turn the pixel shaders off because it runs very slowly Is there something I could run in a script before executing each game (in the same script) which would either turn pixel

multiple wine versions
Hello I managed to install a version of wine in ubuntu using: sudo apt-get install wine which gave me version 1.2.2 This version has been working pretty good with World of Warcraft but according to the AppDB version 1.3.6 is much better ('platinum') for Counter-strike: Source. So I d/led the source and installed it in /home/myname/.wine-1.3.6 but i'm not sure i understand PREFIX i

Slow performance with many 3D games
Lots of 3D games such as Team Fortress 2, Audiosurf or Stalker have very low performance in comparison to running on the same computer on Windows. What can I do to improve it? What developers have still to implement to fully support 3D rendering?

Needs info about wine installation
I was wondering about the installation of wine. Is there a way to determine where the .wine directory will be installed. I have an external HD and was wondering if it was possible to install wine to run on it instead of my internal drive. secondly i was wondering if it was possible to control the size of the .wine directory or if i could find out how it is determined.

Movie Magic Screenwriter 6 Trial installs, crashes when run
This is on OpenSUSE 10.3, Wine 0.9.60, with a clean wineprefix. I installed the trial version of Movie Magic Screenwriter 6. The install went fine. When I try to run the program it freezes almost immediately after loading. A box pops up telling me I have encountered OLE Error 80004001 and wants to send an error report. If I click ok, it opens Thunderbird and can even send an email, though it is

multiple users on LINUX - way to share a single .wine
Basically, I'd like to have just one .wine dir on my file system that multiple users on LINUX can share thus allowing me to keep a single install of my windows apps. The default is to install to /home/CURRENT_USER/.wine so I'm wondering, as long as the LINUX users are in the same group, can I relocate the .wine dir to say, /home/share/.wine and update the wineconfig? I just started using
