Problems with VFAT files with spaces in Wine
I am running RedHat 7.1 on it's own linux drive, and have my win98 drive
mounted in fstab as vfat. I have installed wine, and can run programs
on my windows drive in old 8.3 named directoies. However, whenever I
try to run anything in Program Files, for example (with the space in the
file name), I get the following error:
/opt/wine/bin/wine.bin: cannot find 'mnt/c/Program\

Testing subnets with samba[Scanned]
OK before i start, this was something i was just testing while everyone was in training this afternoon. I have never had to deal with subnets before as we only have a few users, but decided to do a little bit of messing around to gain some experience.
Basically we have one server (mandriva 2006) running samba, it has two 4 port ethernet cards in it but only utilitising one port from each card.

WinXP maps home drive to logon home
Hi,
I am having a "logon home" problem. I have a mixture of Win98 and WinXP
machines and regardless which I use to connect to the Samba server, it
will try to map the home drive to what I have set the "logon home = " to.
This is the line .. "logon home = \\%N\profile.%U"
The user is admin
This is the error I see in the syslog from a Win98 Machine:

theoretical question
i have heard some stories from some people who claim to have been able to
set up a partition in linux and install win98 via wine and then having it
fire up. i know wine isnt designed for this purpose but apparantly it has
been done....who knows, maybe someone is pulling my leg.
i'm just wondering if there is anyone out there who has pulled this off and
if so how did they go about doing it. i

Win98 and Samba
Has any tried to connect to a samba server while using Win98 beta 2 as a client?
I keep getting incorrect username/password errors in the samba log file and am unable to either map a drive or connect to a shared resource.
With debug level set to 4 on the samba serve the main error seems to be error in packet at line 129 for cmd=117 (or something like that).
If anyone else finds a fix for this,

migration win95 -> win98
Hi everybody,
we are currently running a small network with a samba server and a few
Windows _95_ workstations. The server stores roaming profiles for all
users and provides authentification (logon scripts, policy file, ...)
Now, we are planning to add a Windows _98_ workstation.
Q1: Will Win95 and Win98 be able to work with the same user profiles,
policy file etc?
If not, what can I do?

Win98 asks for IPC$ password
Hi all,
After I converted my Linux desktop from Mandriva 2008.1 with Samba 3.0.28a to
Ubuntu 9.04 with Samba 3.3.2, my Windows 98 box could no longer connect to my
Linux desktop via Samba. The symptom was that Windows kept asking for the IPC$
password.
Linux clients have no problem with the Ubuntu Samba server. My machine is
called "mydesk", and on every Linux box in the house, the

security = server & encrypted passwords
Folks,
I've missed the latest encrypted passwords thread, so forgive me if
this is old hat for some of you.
I'm running 2.0.3 with auth being handled by an NT PDC. It seems that
some Win95 clients (namely those with later releases of the OS) have
problems authenticating. I've got encrypt passwords = yes but it
still seems only the old Win95 clients (clear text passwords) can

Encrypted passwords and OS2/Win95/Win98
My LAN is running Samba v1.9.18p10 under RedHat Linux v5.2. Using the SMB
services are Win95 and OS/2 clients. It's all running fine.
I will soon be adding Win98, though, and I understand that there is a
question of password encryption. I'm concerned how the
encrypted/plain-text communication of password will affect my existing
configuration.
If I reconfigure Samba to use encrypted

Hallo Liste

win98 access to samba
TWIMC,
I have a situation in which I can access my samba servers with win95
machines but not win98 PCs. When I double click on the server using the
browse list under win98, it prompts me for a password to access
//SERVER_NAME/IPC$ but denies me access after entering the password. I get
accepted with no problem at this prompt with win95. I compiled with the
defaults and shared the

win95-98 problems
I've installed samba in my linux machine (Mandrake 7.2).
With WinNT and Win2000 there is no problems, but in Win95 and Win98 It's impossible to read files, and open exixting folders, the error is: "the file (folder) don't exist".
If I try to create one, It'isn't shown, there is an error, but if I go in machine with win2000 the folder(file) is there.
How can I resolve

Win 98
I am using samba-1.9.16p2-2 on Linux. Have used it for about 2 years with
no problems. None.
I have several Win95 units that access it. I loaded Win98 on one of the
units and now I can browse the directories but I cannot enter any directory
that requires a password. Win98 reports that the password is incorrect. I
might add that Win98 also gets stuck in one of Microsofts
loops in that since it

xen dom0 crashes while copying a lot of files
xen 3.0.2 dom0 (kernel 2.6.16-xen) always crashes, or rather freezes, whenever I copy more than 40GB of data.
i checked syslog and there is no indication at all why it crashes. this happens whether the OS is FC5 or mandriva 2006, and is also independent of hardware, although we have mostly
dell poweredge (1750, 2850, etc.)
i am wondering if there some workaround. thanks!
