Getting old versions of wine?
Hi, i used to play Warcraft 3 on wine very well years ago and recently decided to give it another go, only to find that it won't work with recent versions of wine. I think this is sad beyond words, but its not my project. I come here to ask some guidance in getting an old version of wine. My googling reveals that 0.9.10 is the one i should get. I use Ubuntu 7.10 and i can try to compile from

Updating to 0.9.59 (source) from 0.9.58 (synaptic)
I installed Wine from Synapitc Packet Manager on Ubuntu 7.10. Currently it's version 0.9.58, but I can't wait for binaries and want to compile and install version 0.9.59 from source. Will it break my current installation? Will my programs (Steam, Audiosur, Peggle Extreme) need to be removed and reinstalled? Also, it seems that Ubuntu repository servers are down now, because I can't

Why is wineprefixcreate deprecated?
I understand that it is applied automatically when needed, but there are times when one would want to run it manually. An example is when I want to literally create a new wine prefix such as env WINEPREFIX="/home/bamm/apps/myprog" wineprefixcreate to prepare a clean profile for future installation of myprog. I know that running setup with a WINEPREFIX would create the clean profile,

wineprefixcreate ?
wineprefixcreate does not create a working registry. The system had a working set of .wine .reg files however installs of office2k failed. I then saved .wine and rebuilt it with wineprefixcreate. After this the original applications did not work. Is wineprefixcreate supposed to succeed at this? Thanks - Dan

Try wineprefixcreate to repair old .wine instead of deleting
Alexandre says we should have users try wineprefixcreate before having them blow away their old .wine directory. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Alexandre Julliard <julliard at winehq.org> Date: Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 2:44 AM Subject: Re: Proposal: versioning .wine directory To: James Hawkins <truiken at gmail.com> Cc: Austin English <austinenglish at gmail.com>,

Bugs not triggering if foret to run winecfg
I just updated to version 0.9.59 and decided that it was time to do a proper retest of one of my apps (DVD Profiler (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1975)). I was quite chuffed when I ran the install and some of the bugs seemed to have been squashed, but I was suffering from the recent task bar issue (bug 12362 (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12362)) so

wine hangs on first run
I'm using a fresh install of Fedora Core 5 with the RPM install of Wine 0.9.12. When I run winecfg, it says "wine: creating configuration directory '/home/vince/.wine'..." as I expect it to. Following that is many lines of "Font metrics" progress with a few "fixme:font" messages. Nothing seems too unusual. But, when it gets to "Font metrics:

Uninstall old wine version and install new version
I did a forum search and found 16 pages for uninstalling wine. Only one was semi-helpful. What I got was: > > [Bakshara at Bakshara ~]$ rmdir ~/.wine > rmdir: failed to remove `/home/Bakshara/.wine': Directory not empty > What do I need to do? I want to uninstall wine 1.1.24 and install 1.1.26. I currently only have three apps installed. So any thing I will loose will be easy

Generating a properly configured Wine installation
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Dear Wine users, I am attempting to run Wine inside Sugar, the OLPC GUI environment. I have managed to learn how to run wine from a nonstandard install prefix. I am now trying to generate a correctly customized .wine/ automatically. wineprefixcreate: msiexec.exe -- "Failed to open the service control manager"
When ~/.wine does not exist, or more specifically the system.reg does not yet exist, wineprefixcreate delivers the message "Failed to open the service control manager." I have tracked this down to the fact that HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services does not yet exist when the msiexec.exe is registered and hence OpenSCManager fails. What is the proper way to register this key. In

Install Wine's fake-windows directory in different place
By default Wine installs its fake-windows part into $HOME. I want rather have it on a separate partition, that I mount as /wine. How can I do this? What I have found was: http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Advanced_Wine_User_Information#Changing_the_location_of_Wine.27s_installation My steps so far: - Installed Wine with Synaptic - # wineprefixcreate --prefix /wine - I find the fake directory

Adding a dir to PATH without using regedit (for an NFS install)
Hello Wine users, I've installed Wine 0.9.32 into an NFS-mounted dir on a RHEL 3 machine and it seems to work fine - I've even modified the /nfs_path/wine/bin/wineprefixcreate, so that an additional dir (c:/Perl) is created under ~/.wine for each user (by mere linking to /nfs_path/Perl) My problem is that currently each user of my Wine-installation has to run "wine regedit"

Can't install IE6
Using wine 0.9.58 on Ubuntu 8.04 Like an idiot, I tried to install IE7 before doing the research to find that IE6 was more ideal with far fewer problems. So after attempting to install IE7 and failing, I tried to install IE6, but in the terminal I get this response after typing wine ie6setup.exe: Warning: the specified System directory L"C:\\windows\\system32" is not accessible. wine:

Inability to proceed with installation of Windows app
I used to use Windows; now I use Linux. One application I used under Windows was MS Money; under Linux, I've been using Gnucash instead. However, Gnucash has been causing me some problems recently, so I thought of trying to use Wine to run my old copy of MS Money under Linux. I downloaded and installed an RPM of Wine for my distribution, wine-core-0.9.16-2.fc3.i386.rpm. That done, I used
