Font / charset encoding problem?
I have successfully installed and launched Sibelius (music typesetting
software) on linux (with codeweavers preview 4, w/ a fake_windows install).
It works fairly well, and would probably deserve a 4 on the app database.
Except for the fonts, which kind of defies the purpose of a typesetting
software! Here are the symptoms and some log activities :

Finale and Maestro fonts
I have been successful in installing and running Finale 2000 with Wine.
The only - major - problem is that the music symbols are replaced by
squares (like the default symbol caracter), making the music unreadable! I
thought that importing the Maestro fonts with DrakeFont (Mandrake 8.0) and
making them available to the system would help, but it doesn't. I have
tried to add :

Specific Font with wine
Hi !
I run Wine 20050211 on RedHat 9. I would like run an application which
use 4 specific fonts (.FON under windows).
I read the manual (winehq.org/site/docs/wine-user/config-fonts-main) and
follow the instructions. But it seems not working ...
1. I convert .fon files to .bdf and to .pcf. I moved the .pcf files to
/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc. I'm not sure here to have correct files because

[ANNOUNCE] xfontsel 1.0.5
The xfontsel application provides a menu-based GUI to display the X11 core
protocol fonts known to your X server, examine samples of each, and
retrieve the X Logical Font Description ("XLFD") full name for a font.
This minor bugfix release finally fixes my long-festering pet peeve with
this tool - when a font fails to load, it will now continue to update the
text sample area instead of

Changing the font used by dialog boxes in Wine
Wine keeps getting better and better, but I've been having a minor font
problem for a while now that's been bugging me. In every dialog box, an
incredibly ugly little fixed-width font is being used. I'm not sure what
name it goes by, so I don't know how to change it. I've put the following
in the [fonts] section of my config file:
"Resolution" = "96"

Error: Widget field13 has zero width and/or height
Greetings,
An update via cvsup (attempting to chase 5.4 stable) on 2006-02-20 @2:40 PM
resulted in a couple of disappointments;
1) after re-building the kernel (cvsupped the SRC on SMP as well) and
installing it. I performed a build/ install world and portupgrade -a.
The portupgrade -a took 2 full days on a base of 246 installed ports.
And resulted in a *465 installed ports base*. Ouch! It's

R-alpha: frametools v.0.0000001
The following three functions are designed to make manipulation of
dataframes easier. I won't write detailed docs just now, but if you
follow the example below, you should get the general picture. Comments
are welcome, esp. re. naming conventions.
Note that these functions are definitely not portable to S because
they rely on R's scoping rules. Not that difficult to fix, though: The

Help with fonts
I recently changed to a new computer and reinstalled linux. I'm
not happy with the current fonts and I see that the whole fonts
area has been revamped, so any old notes I have are obsolete.
Can anyone help me out?
The first and major issue is that when an installation program I
am running tries to display "C:\Program Files" it comes out
looking like CWProgram Files.

PHP SmartyPants Typographer 1.0b2
As I stated before, I had in the work a utility to control spaces
around punctuation and at some other places. Now, I've integrated it,
with a few extra quote goodies, within PHP SmartyPants, as an
extension just like PHP Markdown Extra extends PHP Markdown.
And so appeared SmartyPants Typographer (announcement on my weblog)

[PATCH] build: sort sources to build in a more deterministic way
It has been observed that binaries contents
are depending on the order of linked objects.
This order is caused by GNU make's wildcard function
and the position of sources on filesystem.
This change tries to prevent this kind of randomness.
Also consider building using -j1 flag
to make it even more reproductible.

proliferation of SAMBA links in W2K
Hi!
I'm pretty new to using Samba and have come accross a puzzling problem that
I cannot figure out with the documentation or Samba books... please forgive
me if this has been discussed before in this forum, I have not seen such
discussion.
We have a customer that uses a script that basically maps to three samba
shares, then uses the substitute command repeatedly. Every time a subst

Bug#536175: Bug#536175: Bug#536176: xen-utils-3.4: trying xen-3.4 once breaks xen-3.2 (?)
Here is a patch to the Debian xen-3 3.4.0-1 package that reenables ioemu.
I have been using it for the last four weeks. (I understand there are
reasons this cannot go into Debian yet, but hopefully it will be useful to
people that depend on running HVMs today.)

"glm" function question
I am creating a model attempting to predict the probability someone will
reoffend after being caught for a crime. There are seven total inputs and I
planned on using a logistic regression. I started with a null deviance of
182.91 and ended up with a residual deviance of 83.40 after accounting for
different interactions and such. However, I realized after that my code is
different from that in

xfontsel
I was reading where xfontsel is the OLD method of selecting fonts before
antialiasing.
What is the new method to show available fonts on the system and select
them?
How do I list or show the available anti-aliases fonts?
