encarta installation problems
I'm just trying to install microsoft encarta 99 using wine (some august
2001 snapshot), but it always fails complaining about special characters
in the name of the installation directory, although it is the default
path and even C:\encarta won't work. Any ideas how this can be solved?

Encarta install from Samba server barfs
Greetings:
I tried to install M$ Encarta over my internal network onto my
kids' Windoze 2K machine tonight; the Encarta install stuff is in a
vfat partition on the Samba server. The install started, then
quit about 14% of the way through - the connection to the Samba
server apparently was lost - the installer began complaining
about being unable to find the CD-ROM, and I was unable to browse

Ongoing Samba Errors
Greetings
We just updated two RH9 servers to 3.0.14a-1 and are still seeing a lot
of errors in the logs.
They're not stopping us working but I would _really_ like to understand
what is causing them.
On the first server, in the logwatch, we get a whole swag of:
samba:

G.729 pre-compiled binaries and Asterisk 1.2.x.
Asterisk 1.2.24 seems to crash repeatedly under any substantial call load
(and sometimes without a substantial call load - just one SIP leg is
enough to do it) when using the G.729 pre-compiled binaries from:
http://asterisk.hosting.lv/
As per:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+G.729+Licensing
Time to crash is variable, but seems to require at least an hour of
production performance

Help needed: strange issue with share mapping at logon
Hello all,
I've run into an issue while migrating a client's Samba PDC from Debian
3.x to OpenSuSE 10.3, have been beating my head against it for over a
week, and am now turning to the mailing list for help.
We're running Samba 3.0.26a-3-1478-SUSE-SL10.3 authenticating against
OpenLDAP 2.3.37. Integration of Samba and OpenLDAP works, and importing
the 2000+ existing user accounts

I've currently got wine-20020804 installed and I'm able to install

Wine release 20020904
This is release 20020904 of Wine, a free implementation of Windows on
Unix. This is still a developers only release. There are many bugs
and unimplemented features. Most applications still do not work
correctly.
Patches should be submitted to "wine-patches@winehq.com". Please don't
forget to include a ChangeLog entry.

Query
My research indicates that it is possible to run Excel 97 with standard
wine using a real FAT Windows partition. So far, drawing heavily on
http://www.winecentric.com/ I've been unable to get it to work.
I'm running the 20020904 version, and have mutilated my wine config
nearly beyond repair in an attempt to get excel to run. I've tried
running all native dlls, all builtin, etc, and

embedding data frame in R code?
I would like to insert a few modest size data frames directly into my
R code. a short illustration example of what I want is
d <- read.csv( _END_, row.names=1 )
, "col1", "col2"
"row1",1,2
"row2",3,4
__END__
right now, the data sits in external files. I could put each column
into its own vector and then combine into a data frame, but this seems

iexplore ver 5.5 install can't load commctrl.dll
I have installed wine version 20020904 on:
Linux kernel 2.2.14
glibc 2.1.2
gcc 2.95.3
kde-3.0.2
WINEDLLPATH=/usr/local/lib/wine (set after wine was installed)
I commented out the code in cdrom.c that will not compile because of the old kernel (ie. references to SCSI_PASS). Wine will then compile and install and run.
I then installed all of the fonts from sourceforge. Then I tried to install

massive slowdown in wine-20020904
hi everyone.
i've patched my wine source (20020804) with the patch (20020904) and recompiled it. but when i tried out if everything would work again, i found that all has become worse than before. the programs (as far as they worked) now work REALLY slow. if anyone ever tried out half life (at least the menu works for me) knows that it takes a while until the menus are redrawn again. but now

sieve duplicate locking
Hi!
Does the duplicate sieve plugin do any locking to avoid duplicate
parallel delivery of the same message?
I sometimes experience duplicate mail delivery of messages with the same
message-id, despite the use of a sieve duplicate filter. According to
the log files, those messages are delivered in the same second by two
parallel dovecot-lda processes. (Duplicate filtering works fine in all
