Font Metrics
Hi All
Newbie to wine here :) I have installed wine, and can get notepad and
winemine up, but when I do, I get a painfully long list of messages and
then it goes into Font Metrics 1.1% - Font Metrics 1.2% untill we
eventually get to 100%. I also tried to run File Maker Pro 5 for
windows, however the window opened and just hung for about 15 mins
before I killed the process. I have checked the

And now onto the palm pilot with Kpilot
I've looked up the Kpilot manual, and I think I have an okay idea of
what's going on with it.
I'm trying to get it's detection feature to find my Palm Pilot. CentOS
does seem to be able to recognize it, because if I run lsusb when
running a hot sync, I get the following:
[root at localhost dev]# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 010: ID 0830:0060 Palm, Inc. Palm Tungsten T / Zire 71

problems with rsync in cygwin
Hi,
I'm trying to set up rsync, with the transfers originating from a Win2K box
and going to a Linux box. Both boxes are on my home LAN, so ssh is not
required; I thought I would simply use the rsync protocol. I set up xinetd on
my Linux box to start a rsync server when needed. My first attempts at a test
run failed like so:
$ rsync -a /cygdrive/c/installs/palm rsync://192.168.2.3/palm

Masquerading with Shorewall
Hi all.
I am interested in connecting my Palm T1 to the internet through
Shorewall. I can set up a connection (with Bluetooth) to my Linux
machine, and with Shorewall turned off, I could set up my machine to
allow the Palm to access the internet with these commands :
echo ''1'' >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
iptables -A

The current state of palm syncing on Linux?
I've been searching around on the internet trying to find out about
conduits and options for syncing programs with my Palm Pilot device.
Google searches turn up a lot of discussion on the matter over a two or
three year period, everything from people talking about doing it or how
it should be done or how much they want it done.
But I can't actually determine what, if any, tangible

Samba 3 reports 'directory does not exist' when trying to creating an already existing directory
Hi,
since an upgrade to Samba 3 (the binary rpms samba-3.0.0-1from a
samba download site, redhat 7.3) this morning, we've been
experiencing problems with WinCVS on mounted network drives.
apparently, (one of) the following options is causing the problems (I
can't do more detailed testings right now because too many people
are working on the server) - we use these options to ensure

Trouble syncing Palm via USB
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting my Palm to sync with jpilot on my Centos
system via USB. When I sync, I get this error in jpilot:
pi_accept Illegal seek
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_PI_ACCEPT
Finished
I have jpilot syncing fine with this Palm over the network, BTW. For
USB, I set things up for udev as described on various websites. Here
are the relevant ports & symlink (created

Palm Hotsync success...
Well, after having given up uppon serial communication from
hotsync.exe to the Palm Vx, I decided to try network communication
instead.
I am able to perform a complete hotsync even with Netscape Calendar
synchronization. I am not doing anything special to make it work but
it is not straight forward, neither.
I start hotsync.exe, configuring it for network access only. Then I
start pi-nredir

Any Speex plug-ins available for usage in a Palm device application
Hi all,
I'm new to the speex development mailing list, so I don't have much experience/idea about Speex.
I came to know about speex when I was working on a R&D for my application on Palm devices.
I've created a Pocket PC application, which is a talking phrasebook using .NET Compact Framework.
In this application I'm using a 3rd party MP3 plug-in for playing my MP3 files,

Subject: RE: [Samba] who to copy a registry file between users?
I think the only way to accomplish this correctly is to copy the user
profile to the Default User profile. Then, delete all of the profiles on
each machine and on the servers and have them rebuilt when the users log

Palm OS port
hello all,
At my workplace, our colleague Mukesh has just completed a port of
speex 1.2.1 to Palm OS. He had to write a couple of mathlib functions,
but the trunk remains unchanged.
It works quite well, I was wondering if there will be any interest in
this port in the distribution.

Getting JPilot working
I am trying to get JPilot working.
I have configed gnome-pilot-applet, but it is not talking to the USB
connected Treo650.
My Treo has my name as the user, so from the applet, I see also a userid
(my UID on this system it seems). I try to put that on the Treo and
nothing happens. I have enabled the Backup Conduit.
I am using /dev/pilot, which shows up when my Treo is connected via its

Having problems running palm desktop or the uninstall program
I have a user John Dow on a local machine johnsmachine. I have a samba
user jdow. When I moved the profile john dow to the domain keydomain, I
can't get the install program to run. This is how it looks. I have
local profile johnsmachine/John Dow and roaming profile
keydomain/jdow. When logged into profile johnsmachine/John Dow, I can
install and uninstall the palm software with no

rsync for PDAs?
I've been working for the past few months with open-source solutions for
syncing Palm PDAs (Coldsync, mostly). I've been becoming increasingly
annoyed with Palm's Desktop Link Protocol and the sync mechanism, and am
considering replacing it with a third-party application for the Palm. Since
I've had good luck with rsync in the past, its seemed an obvious choice.
I've

error in importing text files
Hello All:
I am very new to R and am trying to import some (107) text files into R while simultaneously manipulating the data into a structure that I can use. Below is a description of what I am trying to ultimately accomplish. However, I find that I am unable to even read one file into R using the read.table function. I get the following error:

Softick Card Export on Linux with Palm Tungsten E
Hello,
I just installed Softick Card Export 2.19
(http://www.softick.com/cardexport2/) on my Palm Tungsten E. It is
supposed to let me access the SD card inside my Palm without the need of
an external SD card reader. This software is suppposed to be compatible
with Linux usb-storage since version 2.15... but I didn't find how to
use it.
If I do "lsmod | grep -i usb", I see the
