display pop up message on X
Is there a method to display pop up messages on X display? I found xmessage, however I was hoping for something a little more flexible. like being able to tell xmessage to display a file (typically one line in the file). then send it a signal to tell it to re-read the file and show the new data. Sure I can kill it and re-show it but that isnt very nice... Is there something available in centos

I have recently added the appropriate lines to my sources.list and done an apt-get install wine, read the included documentation, and run winesetup. Message display
Is there a command in CentOS4 or some small program to display a short message everywhere possible on a box much like # shutdown -k now "Display me where I'll be seen", but without the added (normal) stuff? xmessage would probably be usable if it had an -onalldesktops option. BTW, the purpose is to add a visual to the scripts I have in place to remind me to connect my external

Newbie: Problem running FileMaker 8.5
Dear All I'm new to Linux, and even newer to Wine. So, please excuse... I've got a Dell D800 with both Linux and Windows installed. Linux is Debian Etch, Windows is XP. The reason for installing Wine was that I'd like to use FileMaker Pro 8.5 from within Linux. I've installed Wine to the Linux world by: sudo apt-get install wine This worked without problems. SMP goes away after installworld (4.8-STABLE)
Hello, I installed 4.8-RELEASE a few weeks ago, and since I let the effort sit stagnant for a while I decided to do the cvsup/buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld/mergemaster/MAKEDEV steps to get current. Went fine, rebooted, then noticed that just one CPU was recognized: FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE #0: Thu Jun 19 17:05:20 PDT 2003

Sigh....ok once more with feeling
The firewall didnt help matters. I think its FUBAR and I need to reformat anyways, so ill reformat and reinstall and put fresh SAMBA up, on Mandrake 9.0. The system has 2 NICs and NET_MASQ shares internet to the XP machine. Therein it acts as a DHCP server and has a firewall. I will open 139 from the start next time.

winpopup
Hi, I have a linux (redhat 6.0) print server and I am running samba 2.0.3-8 serving win95 machines. I would like the print server to send a message to the win95 when a print job is completed. To do that, I run winpopup on win95. However, if win95 users close winpopup, they do not receive any message. Is there any more realiable method to communicate with win95 machines? I would appreciate any
