Updating WordPerfect Office
The version of Wine that ships with WPOffice 9 is
getting pretty creaky. As far as I can tell, Corel
doesn't have any updates on their site, but as far as
I know there's no reason that someone couldn't update
their version.
Anyone have any luck with this? I'm still trying to
reproduce their build parameters.

Samba and Active Directory Permissions
All,
I am currently running Samba 3.0.2a on a RHEL3 server. I would like
to use the extended file systems permissions through windows, but I
haven't had much luck. Here is how I am set up....
My linux box is joined to my AD domain and appears to be functioning
correctly. I also have winbind set up, and functioning, although I
still have some tweaking to do, it is assigning user and

Cluster analysis: hclust manipulation possible?
I am doing cluster analysis [hclust(Dist, method="average")] on
data that potentially contains redundant objects. As expected,
the inclusion of redundant objects affects the clustering result,
i.e., the data a1, = a2, = a3, b, c, d, e1, = e2 is likely to
cluster differently from the same data without the redundancy,
i.e., a1, b, c, d, e1. This is apparent when the outcome is

MGE Ellipse 500 cable config
I have trouble in getting communication work with MGE Ellipse 500. I
bought it second hand and I don't have the cable for it.
How do I know if it's the Serial or USB model? The serial number of the
unit is: 769B16015. I suspect it is the serial version as the label next
to the RJ11 stands "com port", but I can't be 100% sure.
MGE Ellipse serial cable pinout can be found

patch to use pipe if socketpair fails
Hi,
if socketpair support has been compiled in but the host where rsync is run
doesn't support it, you get error
pipe failed in do_recv
This patch makes rsync use pipe if socketpair fails.

incremental backups of maildir via rsync
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi folks,
I would like to do incremental backups of the users' maildir
directories to a dedicated backup host (using "rsync -SHa"
and rsnapshot).
Problem is: Dovecot bloats the incremental backup by changing
the file names again and again.
Is there some way to tell Dovecot to keep meta information
separate from the file names?
Any

Newbie question on VAD
Hi,
I'm interested in speech recognition and it occurred
to me to try to use VAD to automatically detect the start of speech
prior to feeding the stream to the recognition engine.
Speex has a preprocessor capability which presumably could be
used for this, but I did not see similar in my quick perusal of Opus
docs.
First, is this is a dumb idea for some reason? If not, should I just use

Test coverage results available online
Dear OpenSHH developers,
in case this helps with your testing efforts:
At
http://www.opencoverage.net/projects/openssh/index_html/sources.html
you'll find an overview of the condition/decision code coverage as
achieved through a run of the test suite. The state last used is from the
git master branch commit 70860b6.
You might find the total coverage 27.8% to be much lower than what

rsync huge tar files
Hi folks,
Are there any tricks known to let rsync operate on huge tar
files?
I've got a local tar file (e.g. 2GByte uncompressed) that is
rebuilt each night (with just some tiny changes, of course),
and I would like to update the remote copies of this file
without extracting the tar files into temporary directories.
Any ideas?

Samba and Active Directory Permissions RESOLUTION
All,
Thanks for the responses. There were two things I had to do to get
this to work. The first thing was I had to change the readonly
attribute in the smb.conf to NO. I also noticed that there was an error
in my /etc/fstab so that the options were not read in for some reason.
Once I fixed this and re-mounted the filesystem with the ACL option, I
was able to do what I needed to do. Thanks

force re-authentication when accessing different shares
hi all!
using samba 4.9 to export directories for 'virtual' users, i.e. users which
have distinct homedirectories and distinct smbpasswd entries under a
writeable /data partition.
to prevent the need to create /etc/passwd useraccounts (on read-only /), a
self written libnss modul acts as a source. the lib only checks if the
homedirectory exists, returns a fake passwd struct, and finally

Programming using formulas
Dear R experts,
I'm planning to write some kind of multivariate regression function
where I would like to use a formula method.
My question is if there is anywhere some detailed introduction how to
program formulas in R?
A bit more about what I need:
I would like to start implementing a multivariate hierarchical
regression model and to keep it simple in the beginning I would restrict

FW: Samba 3.0.11 on AIX 4.3
Eh ... will someone kindly take a look at this? I have "reduced"
the mail since it wasn't answered at all since I sent it in a
couple of days ago. Thanks.
Hi All,
Pls has anyone successfully installed Samba 3 on an AIX 4.3 (RS6000)
system?
The only precompiled binary I was able to find - v 3.0.4 from
bullfreeware.com
did not work after installation. I haven't been

Samba 3.2.7 and XP authentication error
List,
Long and confusing message follows...
I'm facing a frustrating problem. XP clients can use resoures on the
samba server by IP-address, but not by name. So, "net view \\servername"
gives "access denied" but "net view \\ipaddress" gives list of shared
resources.
Samba server (3.2.7 sernet rpm) is a member server in W2003 domain.
I emphasise that with

HashKnownHosts vs @cert-authority
Hi folks,
maybe I am too blind to see, but would it be possible to
avoid extra entries in known_hosts, if the remote host
has a signed public key matching a @cert-authority line?
Something like
Host *
HashKnownHosts unsigned
This could help to keep the known_hosts file small and
yet get all the unsigned public keys in.
Just a suggestion, of course. Regards

Vampire fails
All,
I'm trying to migrate to samba3 from nt4. Unsuccesfully so far :-(. Instructions are from idealx how-to v1.6. Enviroment is RHFC2/Samba 3.0.3-5/OpenLDAP 2.1.29
Membership to the domain is ok
----------------
# net rpc testjoin
Join to 'NT-DOM' is OK

The next step would be vampire but it fails with reference to smbtest2-domain. I can't figure out wherefrom
