getting windows help files to display
I can run my programs with no problems but the help files do not display. Is there some trick? I am running RH 7.2 with wine installed using the rpm that came with it. Thanks.

Drive use in wine
I'm running Wine release 20011004 and have created the floppy and CDs drives for my floppy, CD and CDRW. I am automounting the devices. 1. I've noticed that if I don't have a floppy or CD in the drive wine ignores it and even if I insert a disk later the app (notepad) never sees it. 2. I have two CDs, one a Creative DVD and the other a Plextor CDRW, and I've created the

FixMes
I've just started working with wine and have been running notepad to test it. I start it from a console window in kde and get a bunch of output like: FIXME:pthread_rwlock_unlock FIXME:pthread_rwlock_rdlock FIXME:pthread_rwlock_unlock FIXME:pthread_rwlock_rdlock I assume this is a programmer's reminder to fix it at a future date? -- Brett I. wine problem - cannot write to directory
I just installed a new version of wine and wine stopped working. It starts and I am getting a message that I have no permition to write on my Win c:\ disk. I checked that root is owner of c:\ directories, so I switched to root user (even my userid is defined in the same group as root) and I am gettin a message that root cannot run wine. So I tried to "chmod 774 Agent" (Agent is directory

qqnorm(), is it "backwards"?
Hello R friends, I'm wondering why I get funny qqnorm() results. It seems that they should all be reflected in the normal qqline(). For instance: if I qqnorm() bimodal or uniform data I get a sigmoidal in which the qqnorm() points lie above the qqline() at -ve theoretical quantiles, and the qqnorm() points lie below the qqline() at +ve theoretical quantiles. Yet I expect such platykurtic

hierarchical linear models, mixed models and lme
Dear R-users, I am trying to analyse the data of the box 10.5 in the Biometry from Sokal and Rohlf (2001) using R. This is a three-level nested anova with equal sample size : 3 different treatments are compared ; 2 rats (coded 1 or 2) / treatment are studied ; 3 preparations (coded 1, 2 or 3) / rats are available ; 2 readings of the glycogen content / preparations are realised. Treatment is

anova planned comparisons/contrasts
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how anova works in R by translating the examples in Sokal And Rohlf's (1995 3rd edition) Biometry. I've hit a snag with planned comparisons, their box 9.4 and section 9.6. It's a basic anova design: treatment <- factor(rep(c("control", "glucose", "fructose", "gluc+fruct",

KS test from ctest package
This question is mainly aimed at Kurt Hornik as author of the ctest package, but I'm cc'ing it to r-help as I suspect there will be other valuable opinions out there. I have been attempting 2 sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests using the ks.test function from the ctest package (ctest v.0.9-15, R v.0.63.3 win32). I am comparing fish length-frequency distributions. My main reference for the

Error en cor, too many elements specified

Hi, I''m trying to understand the lme output and procedure. I''m using the Crawley''s book. I''m try to analyse the rats example take from Sokal and Rohlf (1995). Boxcox transformation / homogeneity of variances
Dear r-helpers, Prior to analysis of variance, I ran the Boxcox function (MASS library) to find the best power transformation of my data. However, reading the Boxcox help file, I cannot figure out if this function (through its associated log-likelihood function) corrects for * normality only * or if it also induces * homogeneity of variances *. I found in Biometry (Sokal and Rohlf, p. 419)

ks.test - continuous vs discrete
I frequently want to test for differences between animal size frequency distributions. The obvious test (I think) to use is the Kolmogorov-Smirnov two sample test (provided in R as the function ks.test in package ctest). The KS test is for continuous variables and this obviously includes length, weight etc. However, limitations in measuring (e.g length to the nearest cm/mm, weight to the nearest

detailed calculation of two way anova with unbalanced design
Dear list, Could someone show me where can I find the detailed formula on how to calculate the two way anova with unbalanced design? Say, if I have 2*2 design with 10,20,30,40 samples in each of the 2*2 cells. Most of the places I've googled only show how to calculate using software such as R, but not clear the detailed formula for calculating this. Thanks, Jack [[alternative HTML version

Video Analysis?
What software exists for digitizing video to quantify the motion of specific features in the image? I might be willing to use something that's NOT in R, though I'd prefer something in R (or at least with an R intereface). Thanks, Spencer Graves

multiple comparisons in nested design
Dear professors and collegues I need to perform a analysis of dates from a nested experimental design. From "Bioestatical Analysis" of Zar "Bimetry of Sokal" & Rohlf "Design and Analysis of Experiments" of Montgomery I have: Sum (mean(x)_i - mean(x)_T)2 / (a-1) -> var(epsilon) + n sigma2_B + n b (sum alfa_i)2 / (a-1) Sum (mean(x)_ij - mean(x)_i)2 /

unknown compression
Hello, I am trying to modify some functions in an existing package. I can get a function by just typing the name in the console, but how can I get all the functions in a package? the ./R/ subdirectory has files xx.rdb and xx.rdx which I can not decompress with 7-zip or with unzip, unrar etc. The help files are compressed with gzip in the ./man/ folder and can be unzipped easily. Thanks for your

Checking for orthogonal contrasts
A common point made in discussion of contrasts, type I, II, III SS etc is that for sensible comparisons one should use contrasts that are 'orthogonal in the row-basis of the model matrix' (to quote from http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02/archive/111550.html) Question: How would one check, in R, that this is so for a particular fitted linear model object? cannot find function "simpleRDA2"
Hi, I am trying to run the command "forward.sel.par," however I receive the error message: "Error: could not find function 'simpleRDA2'." I have the vegan library loaded. The documentation on "varpart" has not helped me to understand why I cannot call this function. Maybe I am missing something obvious because I am still an 'R' novice. Below is a
