successful ATI card for WINE gaming?
Is there current or semi-current ATI video card that people are having good luck with for video games through WINE? I'm going to need a new card soon and we have had a long run of bad luck with the quality of Nvidia cards so I would like to give ATI a try. I know the driver improvements for Linux have been slow to arrive, but if anyone has a card they can recommend it would give me a

ATI (rv350) + open-source driver + wine gaming issues
Hello everyone. I seem to have a bit of a problem running some 3D accelerated games under wine, while using the open-source ATI Radeon driver. My graphics card is Radeon 9700, and the open-source drivers overall work much better than the proprietary fglrx. The fglrx driver allows me (in most cases) to run games like Temple of Elemental Evil (particularily) or Morrowind normally, but I can't

No video acceleration under wine?
OS: Ubuntu 10.04 32bits Core: i5 2,4ghz Video card: Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5470 1GB Hello all, I'm trying to play a direct3d MMORPG game called Ragnarok Online (if you search, you'll see it's not a heavy game), but when I connect, I noticed slow perfomance, as if the game was working just by CPU. So I'm wondering if WINE is using video acceleration for it. I'm using

Major problem with any 3D game.
Hi, I'm having some very nasty problem. Wine works perfectly with normal applications, but when I try to open a game, it does something like this : http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/401/img1388tj7.jpg I have an ATI Mobility X1400 video card with driver version 8.522 (fglrx) I have 3D acceleration on as compiz does work. Wine does this with compiz on/off so it's not because of it. If

Gaming support with different hardware vendors (esp. ATI)
Hi all! I recently got an ATI Radeon HD 3850 card and now noticed that with the fglrx driver many games that look well in AppDB do not run properly on this hardware (Supreme Commander ingame: flickering static garbage, Prince of Persia SoT has several issues that completely garble ingame graphics). Older games (not using shaders among other things) seem to run fine - need to do more testing

games through wine not detecting video card consistently
When trying to play games through wine my video card is not being detected correctly and/or consistently. In Star trek Online I get a box after game launch telling me that I have failed a systems check because I am using an unsupported video card. The box gives me the choice of trying the default settings or lowest settings or quitting the game. In World of Warcraft the video options in game

Neverwinter Nights2 doesn't detect my video card
I use a Nvidia geforce gtx 260m on a fedora 14 and i just installed neverwinter nights 2. When i start the game i get a box in which it says: Your video card has less than 128 MB of video memory. Performance may be less than optimal. and that is crazy because i have 1gb of video memory. and then another box appears which says Unable to detect a video card with hardware 3D acceleration.

AppdB and Bugzilla suggestion
Video acceleration is an essential aspect of personal computers now, and it's becoming more important every day. Not only for games, but also for most modern OS interfaces, video decoding and all kinds of applications are depending on it now. So, I think both AppDB and Bugzilla should have 2 aditional dropboxes when reporting test data and bugs : one for the video card manufacturer (Nividia,

Deus Ex in Wine - working
hey all, i know it's kind of pointless to get Deus Ex running in wine now thnx to loki (j/k), but if you have shelled out $$ for Deus Ex winblows version, now you can run it in wine. I got Deus Ex running yesterday with TransGaming's (www.transgaming.com) version of wine. I ran it in both OpenGL and Glide mode, video runs excellent. Mouse input is great as well, much better than the

Wine installed... but not?
Hey, I've got a Ubuntu 11.10 system I use as my home server. I installed wine on it a little while ago and everything was working great, I was using it to run Air Video Server. At some point when I was installing new display drivers to enable GPU acceleration in XBMC Air Video Server stopped loading on boot. When I tried to fix it, I found that the system was acting like wine was not

WINE and older games
I know that there is always the push for the latest and greatest games to be working under WINE, but it's always been a little irritating to me, that as the owner of systems that tend to not be up to par to playing the latest and greatest, that older DirectX 7 and below games really don't feel like they've been giving the TLC that they may deserve. I've been an ongoing quest for

Understanding Wine on Ubuntu. Having problem i can't explain
I'm a newb to Wine as I have never tried to really run anything windows from a Linux box, so with that said here is my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 running Ubuntu 8.10, 1.6GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, and 64MB video card. For some reason, whenever I try to play Diablo II I am able to play for random periods of time (anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours) then Wine seems to freeze up and lock

Anybody have any luck with games on Sandy Bridge?
I have been trying for the past several weeks to install my various windows games on my new Sandy Bridge desktop (Ubuntu 11.10, integrated Sandy Bridge graphics, Wine 1.3) with little to no success. While the games install just fine as the appdb says they should, I have yet to get any game to run and I have come to the conclusion that it is because of the graphics. The most progress I have made is
