X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Hey all,
When I first start an Xsession (from dtlogin) I can telnet to the app
server (my linux box) and run Notes under WINE and it will display on my
HP box just fine. All Notes functions work, even printing. However,
when I File|Exit from Notes and then try to restart it, I get an error.
here is the error message:

Problems running wine on a remote XTERM
I had a similar problem trying to remotely display Wine progs to an
HPUX machine. After an extensive amount of probing, my colleague and
I discovered that the target machine (the one being displayed to) had
some kind of wierd, hybrid color depth that was confusing to Wine.
You might want to make sure the color depth on the target box is one
that Wine likes. Or, I could be totally wrong, and in

WINE doesn't exit completely
Hello all and thank you for all the great tips in the past.
My current problem (among other personal ones I won't discuss here) is
that when exiting Notes R5 under WINE, the wineserver and the actual
"wine --managed notes.exe" processes continue to exist.
2724 pts/1 S 0:00 wine --managed notes.exe
2726 ? S 0:17 wineserver
Notes runs very well except for this.

X11 help please
The rgl package currently crashes R when running under Xvfb (the
"virtual frame buffer" server), at least on MacOSX. It makes sense that
it shouldn't be able to work there (it needs interactivity), but I don't
know how to detect the problems before they cause the crash.
Currently the error happens the first time you try to open an rgl
window; when rgl calls XCreateWindow R

FreeNX documentation and other miscellanea
I was having trouble connecting to the server that I am using for remote
development so I updated things and rebooted.
Connected into FreeNX nicely after that...wonder if there is issues with
memory leaks or something...
Anyway, it appears that the nxagent grabbed port 3000 which is what I
was using for rubyonrails/webrick (I probably can change that) which
sort of tells me that when I first

pam_winbind.so user expired password config for Solaris /etc/pam.conf
I'm trying to configure my Solaris 9 pam.conf for CDE login/password
expiration using
ADS security on W2003. If my AD account password is in good standing,
my config works great in /etc/pam.conf. However - I'm having trouble
getting it to recognize that my password in AD has expired to ask me
to reset it on the CDE screen. With the config below - it just tells

Some errors in the blogentry with instructions on how to install Xvnc on Solaris
Hi,
I created my first Xen DomU running Solaris today using the instructions
from this page Creating Solaris domU virtual disk images at
OpenSolaris.org
<http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/How-To-07-2006/Solaris-domU/>
and it works out of the box!
That''s cool again!
If you''re going to do the same (and I encourage you to do so!) be aware

Re: Wine 1.3.1 X_CreateWindow Error
After coming back to this after a while, I discovered this page which solved it: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Voodoo3doesnotdo3d
Basically, you have to install libglade3 and then create an Xorg.conf (recent Ubuntus do not have one by default) to prevent anything else other than 16bpp and nothing larger than a mode of 1024x768. Now, I'm playing Total Annihilation like the old days, on

Domain users are not able to login through ftp.
Hi,
I have successfully setup a Solaris 8 server that allows Windows AD Users to login to it (through winbind). The problem is
that ALL such users can now do so. Is there a way to control which users are allowed to login while others are denied access?
I have tried adding
valid users = user
and deny to specific users via
invalid users = user
It's not working.

dtracing a forked process OR dynamic library
Hi,
I am tracking down a problem and would like to know how I can follow a
forked process with my dtrace script, or how I can trace a dynamic library.
Here is the problem. I am tracing dtlogin, and specifically I am trying
to determine what error libpkcs11`<routine> is returning. It turns out
dtlogin forks a lot of processes, and I believe the second forked
process is the one that winds
