Newbie (Very Newbie) Question
Okay, I just installed RedHat 7.1 on my comp like 2 days ago. I'm slowly learning. I have my HD partioned with a Winblowz section (5gb) and the rest is for Linux (the other 55ish). I D/Led the stripped version of Wine from one of the sites that you get to from www.winehq.com. It's in rpm format, so I simply used the File Manager in RedHat to install it (Right-click selected Install). So,

kworker 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
Greetings everyone. I am experiencing the kworker issue where a kworker is using 100% of a given core. This behavior was only observed after having installed a new water cooler, to replace a cooler that had died. (Sealed closed loop device from Corsair) The processor is staying around 40 degrees celsius as reported by the MB UEFI interface. (ksysguard shows between 29 degrees and 30 degrees,

Centos 7 kworker uses 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
Greetings again everyone. Can someone please respond to this? I am not sure what is causing this issue, however, others seem to have experienced it in the past. Could this be caused by the processor being damaged? Nothing has changed on the system, except for the heat warning shutoff when the water cooler died, and the system was not restarted until the new one was installed. Any input

Re: Folding@home Crahes Frequently
Have you overclocked your system at all? F at H puts considerable stress on your system and will often find instability in hardware/overclocking even if other stress tests passed (as was my case). I am also running a 1055T. After I truly stabilized my overclock, F at H hasn't crashed since.

WoW WOTLK => Patch 3.3.2 kills my fps....
After upgrading to a Club 3D Radeon 5770 overclocked edition i was finally able to get some good fps out of wow... 90 => 110 FPS in Stanglethorn Vale with all the graphics option to their lowest setting possible. However last night the game installed patch 3.3.0 => 3.3.2.... Afer doing that upgrade the game actually runs at about 60 FPS now if i am lucky.... Mostly when i walk around the

R performance--referred from Bioconductor listserv
Hi, all-- I wanted to start a (new) thread on R speed/benchmarking. There is a nice R benchmarking overview at http://www.sciviews.org/other/benchmark.htm, along with a free script so you can see how your machine stacks up. Looks like R is substantially faster than S-plus. My problem is this: with 512Mb and an overclocked AMD Athlon XP 1800+, running at 588 SPEC-FP 2000, it still takes me

Does wine bottleneck framerate?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcwieeBEySc My performance doesn't even come close to this even at low resolution and overclocked, and I have the 512Mb version of this card, this guy has the 256mb version and I have the same settings, i've seen people run some really high-end games on this like crysis at decent settings, (not high just decent). Does wine actually bottleneck performance on

Battlefield bad company 2
Hello, Im a new ubuntu's user. I started using it about 3 days ago. I installed wine with wow, and work's perfectly about 75 fps. Then i've installed D3d9 library, directx10 library, directx9 library, and so many other things to be able to play BFBC2. The first problem was a black screen, i found the solution on internet's webpage. The second problem was resolution, and i found a

OT - the "Dear Thompson Media" open letter.
I must admit, reading this: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/openletter.html brought out the loudest laugh in quite some time. My kids, hearing the hub-bub, gathered around the PC to see what I was laughing at. I *attempted* to explain the new mp3 licensing terms to my youngest daughter. I finally hit pay-dirt when I explained to my kids the bait-and-switch, what Thompson Media is doing now,

Theora@GP2X possible?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I just want to know whether it would be possible to play ogg-theora videos on my favourite Handheld, the GP2X. For those of you who don't know the GP2X yet there's much information about it on Wikpedia or on http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Hardware_Documentation . To make it short, its an ARM-based Handheld which is able to play Xvid and DivX

Problem with multiboxing WoW
I've been trying to open up multiple instances of WoW under Wine for a while now... I can get two copies open at once without a problem, but I run into issues when I try to open a third. Some background: I'm running each one from a separate install, not trying to open them all from the same folder. I'm using Wine 1.1.2, and the latest binary nVidia drivers (173.14.12). I've

ZFS locking up! Bug in ZFS, device drivers or time for mobo RMA?
Greetings all. I am facing serious problems running ZFS on a storage server assembled out of commodity hardware that is supposed to be Solaris compatible. Although I am quite familiar with Linux distros and other unices, I am new to Solaris so any suggestions are highly appreciated. First I tried SXDE 1/08 creating the following pool: -bash-3.2# zpool status -v tank pool: tank state:

There is a big, big difference between cbr and vbr, btw. The machine in question is a Pentium 3 700 oc'ed to 800, 512MB ram, win nt 5.1 (2k and xp being nt) etc In an earlier version the oddcast dsp ate up so much cpu time when set at say 64kbps (for examples sake) 44.1kHz, stereo that the machine became totally unusable and the winamp task had to be (slowly) ended with task manager. Now,

Rapid transfers cause kernel panic
Our site has been experiencing problems with Samba causing kernel panics under heavy use. We are running Mandrake 7.0 and Samba 2.0.6. We are no longer using the distro included with Mandrake - we actually downloaded the 2.0.6 release and recompiled. Downloading from Samba shares causes no problems - and downloads are frequent and heavy - but uploading similar amounts of data leaves a catatonic
