UTMP problem and Samba
Hi,
I have had a few tiny problems now that i have samba with utmp. First of
all, I killed a few stray smb processes by using kill -9 pid. Well, this
messed up my 'who' and 'finger' readings.
Now I have this

symbolic linking libs | thanks!
Several good suggestions were sent my way - much appreciated. In my
experience, any solution to a problem that gives a user write access to
anything other than their own /home directories is a disaster waiting to
happen (spoken as someone who has burned in past doing otherwise). So, I'll
pursue some approaches that don't reequire the /lib access option.

IPC connections and utmp
Hi,
I am running Samba version 2.2.5 with utmp turned on. I have a problem with
utmp and not displaying who is currently logged in. The basic idea is that
even though a user has logged off the computer (win2k pro) a connection to
IPC$ remains. It gives this.

[LLVMdev] hybrid source control
Given that CVS seems to be a genuine problem for some of us, and that
there's no reason in the world to change for others, I wonder if we
shouldn't consider adopting a hybrid approach to source control, a la
FreeBSD.
There:
- highly active developers bitten by CVS,
- people working on particular, 'experimental' projects
and - those who "just want to"

SOLVED: Roaming profiles not updating XP
Amazing, this issue has been killing me for months. Every few weeks when I'm
in the office I put a few hours into it, no luck. Your resolution works as
advertised. Here's what I did
1. On a windows box, Logon as an administrator.
2. Start>Run>services.msc
3. Properties of "NVIDIA Display Driver Service" > Set to Manual
4. reboot
5. logon with roaming profile, make a

mac: lib/gtk.pkg
Hello,
I'm sorry to just pop-up on the mailing list like this and ask a relatively non-R related question but I had no idea whom else to contact on this matter.
I'm working on a completely different port of an application to OS X which requires GTK and through Google'ing stumbled on a rather recent GTK installer for Mac at: http://r.research.att.com/
I was wondering if anyone here

Arabic Wiki
Hi guys,
I'm a MAJOR fan of CentOS and its proven itself a lifesaver many a time in
my professional and personal lives.
I was hoping to help out by contributing to the wiki by translating as much
as is possible of the wiki into Arabic. The thing is, the wiki is split
into several ISO based country codes and there are 22 countries where
Arabic is the national language, do I pick one in

Ideas on how to convert spoken name to text (or wav to text)..speech recognition software?
I'm interested in taking a persons spoken recorded name (First, Last) and converting the two spoken words to text. Is there any solutions out there that would make this possible?

Samba and Win 2003 AD Question
High all,
First of all, thanks in advance for any response to this message. Groups
like this are a lifesaver.
I just took over an admin position for a small software company that
runs a Windows 2000 domain, in native mode, with a Samba 3 file server,
as a Domain Member, connecting to a password server which is the Windows
2000 Primary Domain Controller.
The domain controller runs a

Occasional 'Permission denied'
I've been running rsync for years, and it's working great - offsite backups,
backups to a SAN, etc. It's a lifesaver.
Occasionally, I'm getting a very few files that give me something like the
following:

Permission denied

Nerdvittle's Reminders and Zaptel
I am attempting to implement Nerdvittle's Call Reminders on my *
1.2.12.1 PBX. It has 8 Zaptel trunks provided by 2 Digium TDM400P
cards.
If I use the call reminders internally, it works flawlessly. The
problem happens when I set the call-back number to an external number so
that the call goes out the Zaptel trunk. The reminder message starts
playing before the person being called picks up

HI Greg,
Sorry, I misunderstand your question.
I am not sure whether it works with numSummary() from library(Rcmdr).
You could use other ways, such as:
