My "needs". Can Wine be a solution for me?.
Hello all:
I need to use MS Access 97 and MS Word 97 in my job. I need too to visit
every day a web that is designed to be viewed exclusively with MS Internet
Explorer.
These are the things that keep me attached to Windows 98. I tried to solve
the paranoic constant rebooting of the computer with a VMWare virtual
machine but it's too resource-wasting. Before beginning to spend time on

SuSE 7.1: What Wine package?.
Hello all:
I use a SuSE 7.1 Linux distro. It has a December-2000 version of Wine.
I tried to update by compiling an src.rpm of Wine. Compilation was OK but
when I installed the resulting rpm it dind?n work. Programs broke down
some moments after launching them. Config file has the same options it had
when I was using SuSE?s rpm of Wine.
I don?t know what Wine package is the appropiate for using

Some handy methods - perhaps cool enough to be committed some time
Hi.
Some time ago I posted some prototype-"extensions", which could come in
handy.
I''ve been updating them a bit and added a few more and I think its time
to share
it again.
Feel free to use it.
The code should be rather self explaining, but heres a quickguide.

wine-systray too small
I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, but I can't find any
reference to it anywhere...
When I start an app such as getright that minimises straight away to the
systray, I get a tiny window with no icons, which my window list calls
"Wine-Systray". I have to be super accurate to put the mouse in the
right spot to right click on what should be the getright icon (but

Generation of labels for 2 factors
Hello,
I have a data set with 10 countries, 10 sectors of public policy and 15 years
like
country sector year
a aa 1980
a aa 1981
...
a bb 1980
a bb 1981
...
b aa 1980
b aa 1981
...
b bb 1980
b bb 1981
....
with 1500 observations.
My cases are the couple country/sector. So, I want to have 100 cases over 15
years. (both country and sector are factors)
I want to assign to each case a label

Accents in R
Hi,
How can I include accents and signs like '?' '?' in the plots generated by R?
I try, but R automatically transforms the name
ex:
> countries <- c("M?xico", "Espa?a")
> countries
[1] "M\216?xico" "Espa\216?a"

I've seen in some Spanish texts about R how is it normal to include labels of
the plots and other names with

License on rsync ??
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Noted in the readme that rsync is licensed under GPL, and have some
questions about this.
Reading through a couple different places on the internet, of people
wondering why there are few to no GUI front-ends (are there any good
ones? if so, much of my questions here can be disregarded).
I think I found one project, a PHP-GTK interface, that

extlinux graphical menu with function keys
# Hi all,
#
# I have a question regarding the syslinux menu as used on the Ubuntu,
# Sabayon, ... live CD's.
# According to the syslinux documentation the function keys can be used
# to display a help file, but in the menu of these live distros the
# function keys are used to pick the resolution, language and keyboard.
#
# I would like to bind a submenu to these function keys. Is this

file context menu takes for ever with 3.0.6, both sernet and suse
I've tested SerNet's ans SuSE's versions of Samba 3.0.6
on a test member server. Joining domain, attaching share
all works but if I right-click a file, the context menu
takes for ever to pop up. If I select Properties, it
takes even longer until the dialog box appears.
Right-clicking a directory pops up the context menu
without delay and the Properties dialog box also comes
fast, but

Let R compile for libcurl8 ?
Hi!
The same Inar reported for rawhide
(https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2023-March/082482.html)
is true for SuSE's distros.
Right now R does not compile with libcurl8, but SuSE Tumbleweed/Factory
switched to 8 a week ago.
Would be great, if the patch Inar provided could be applied to
main.

Samba server fails to save settings
Hi Rowland,
Thanks for your help, I have been suspecting Suse's Yast too!
Is there a samba configuration GUI tool I can use to launch it independent of Yast? This would help to chase yet another problem!
Kind regards,
Aref

Building virt-top to SLES 11 SP3
Hi all,
I was curious whether anyone has successfully built virt-top (version 1.0.8) on SUSE SLES11 SP3. SUSE's ocaml support is rather limited, so I've built ocaml 4.00.1 from source and installed the necessary dependencies using Opam.
I'm still running into a compile error on virt_top.ml, line 697:
Error: This expression has type int -> D.typed_param list array
but an

OT: SUSE 9.3 and NICs
Folks, I realize this is off topic, and if anyone can suggest a
better source for the question, I'd be glad to go there. Novell
SUSE's support is unresponsive, however.
My problem is this: I'm running 9.3 Pro on an Intel server board that
has two NIC chips built in (a 10/100 and a GigE). I've since added a
Netgear GigE NIC. However, every time I reboot, the NICs assigned to
