Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all,
well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who
are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things
are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white
flag...
It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

[PATCH 2/4] direct-io: add a hook for the fs to provide its own submit_bio function V3
V1->V2:
-Changed dio_end_io to EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL
-Removed the own_submit blockdev dio helper
-Removed the boundary change
V2->V3
-Made it so we keep track of what the current logical offset in the file we have
a BIO setup for so we can pass it into the submit_io hook.
Because BTRFS can do RAID and such, we need our own submit hook so we can setup
the bio''s in the correct fashion,

Installing Samba on RedHat Linux 5.3
Glad to hear that you succeeded in getting Samba installed. Next steps to
getting it to work are:
1) edit your /etc/samba/smb.conf file to fit the needs of your network.
2) use "testparm" (without the quotes) to verify that your smb.conf file is
correct.
3) start your samba services with:
service smb start
service winbind start (if you need winbind)
4) connect to a samba share with

samba and bin/text modes
Hello samba,
I would like an advice on following:
is there any way how to tell samba what transfer mode to use? I
think I read that samba does only binary and to use text you have to
use something else. We have windows machines using text files on
linux samba server and i need to transfer those files in text mode.
Can anyone help me please?

[RFC][PATCH] direct-io: btrfs: avoid splitting dio requests for non-btrfs filesystems
Hi,
this is about an issue newer kernels show, bysplitting direct I/O requests
into 4k pieces to directly merge them in the Block Device Layer afterwards.
If anyone is interested in own tests just use a simple command like
dd if=/mnt/test/test-dd1 of=/dev/null iflag=direct bs=64k count=1
in combination with blktrace.
The following patch is more a proposal for discussion than a solution, well

syntax for playlist
I should be more specific . What I meant to ask was - is it necessary for the directory that icecast streams or serves files from to "everyone" or the "world" have at least read permissions. I do plan to experiment with the permisions but I was just asking to see if any one had already tried this. I like to lock down my system as much as possible.
Thanks for the help!

New minimal SMB2 client library !
Ronnie Sahlberg, Samba Team member - has
written a new small-footprint SMB2/3 client
library. Compiled size is 120KB (yes, that
is *KB*, not MB :-). It supports signing,
sealing, NTLM authentication (and krb5
with external libraries).
It has *no* dependencies (other than the
afore-mentioned krb5 if you need it) and
is available for checkout and hacking at:
