Can not install Excel97/Word97
Hello! I am new to this list (although I have done a fair amount of research in the archives) and I need to ask what is probably one of the most frequently asked questions on a list like this: How do I install Word97 and Excel97? (Codeweavers CrossoverOffice can do this, and they ASSURE us that they roll everything they do back to the main wine CVS and hence, this SHOULD work!) So far; this is

reducing memmoves
Attached is a patch that makes window strides constant when files are walked with a constant block size. In these cases, it completely avoids all memmoves. In my simple local test of rsyncing 57MB of 10 local files, memmoved bytes went from 18MB to zero. I haven't tested this for a big variety of file cases. I think that this will always reduce the memmoves involved with walking a large

[PATCHv2] SSE2/SSSE3 optimized version of get_checksum1() for x86-64
I've read up some more on the subject, and it seems the proper way to do this with GCC is g++ and target attributes. I've refactored the patch that way, and it indeed uses SSSE3 automatically on supporting CPUs, regardless of the build host, so this should be ideal both for home builders and distros. Getting the code to build right in c++ mode (checksum_sse2.cpp only) was a bit of an

Create a hyphen-separated set of letters derived from a string - How to?
Hi, This is such a trivial programming issue, but I can''t find a way to transform, say ''abc'' to ''a-b-c'' without using pattern matching. Any ideas? Possible security hole
Maybe security related mails should be sent elsewhere? I didn't notice any so here it goes: sender.c:receive_sums() s->count = read_int(f); .. s->sums = (struct sum_buf *)malloc(sizeof(s->sums[0])*s->count); if (!s->sums) out_of_memory("receive_sums"); for (i=0; i < (int) s->count;i++) { s->sums[i].sum1 = read_int(f);

Weak CheckSum Question
Hi all, I am writing a xdelta-like application as a personal experiment and am busy implementing the rsync protocol, so far so good. I am using C++ templates and creating the algorithms so that operate on any stream, array, etc. through iterators. All seems well except that I am getting a lot of false hits with the weak checksum. When generating checksums of blocksize 1024 on the RedHat 7.1

Installing Wordview with Winetools
Dear friends: I am pleased to say that I successfully installed Internet Explorer Sp1 on my Linux (Scientific Linux 4.0, which is based on RHEL 4) using Wintools. After installing IE6, I thought installing WordView (the Word97 word view program) would be a snap. But instead Wintools failed to install it in several attempts. It started, downloaded the file and tried to install it. But at

2nd POSTING: Samba PDC shares causing errors in MS Word 97 SR2
Hi, I support around 15 Windows 2000 Clients who log into and have home directories on a Samba PDC running under RedHat 7.3. The version of samba I am using is 2.5.5. All the clients use Word97 SR2 and they all get the following error while working on documents stored on their home directories on the PDC: Word failed reading from this file (filename.doc). [PATCH] SSE2/SSSE3 optimized version of get_checksum1() for x86-64
What do you base this on? Per https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/x86-Options.html : "For the x86-32 compiler, you must use -march=cpu-type, -msse or -msse2 switches to enable SSE extensions and make this option effective. For the x86-64 compiler, these extensions are enabled by default." That reads to me like we're fine for SSE2. As stated in my comments, SSSE3 support must be

Problem SAVING and LOADING documents in Crossoffice Wine Word97
Dear friends: I am using PCLINUXOS version .92. My problem, simply put, is that I cannot SAVE or LOAD documents in MSWord97 using the older Codeweavers Crossover Office Wine 1.3.5. Thinking the problem might be resolved in the latest Crossover Office 5, I downloaded the Tryout version but the same problem occurs (i.e. at least for me) in this latest version. In fact, it wouldn't even

Rebooting during installation
OK, I know I've seen the answer somewhere, but I can't find it. How does one handle the situation when an installer asks you to reboot during an install? Wineboot does nothing, or maybe it does, but I can't figure out what to do next. Are there generic instructions for doing this?

Unable to install MS-Aplications
Hello I am using wine release 20010216 and SuSE Linux 7.1. I can run small windows aplications like notepad with wine on my system, but I am not able to install larger MS-aplications like MS-Office 95 or 97. When I try to install something like this, it seems, as if the installation will run, but then an error message with the number 544 appears . It tells me, that the setup-programm is unable to
