Office XP? Windows XP dlls? mIRClocked up.
I've read through some archives on the users mailing list and found some
answers to getting Wine 20020122 going. I didn't have to change much
with the default way tools/wineinstall. Here's my questions
1) Does Wine run programs that live in a native Windows XP vfat
partition using the native dlls?
2) Does Wine run Office XP, even if it is buggy?
3) Can it run programs such as

pppoe and /etc/shorewall/interfaces
I am a newbie to linux and shorewall. I am reading the shoreall
quickstart guides. I am a bit confused about the following statement:
----------- quote --------------
The firewall has two network interfaces. Where Internet connectivity
is through a cable or DSL "Modem", the External Interface will be the
ethernet adapter that is connected to that "Modem" (e.g., eth0)

Samba, Win2K, Network path not found
Hi,
I have tried to get my Win2K to access my Linux Samba server without success.
The error message I am getting is "Network Path not found".
Below are the details:
1. The Win2K is actually a guest OS running on VMWare-2.0.4.
The host OS is a RedHat 7.2. VMware uses samba-2.0.6.
2. The config file was based on a working sample, off another
VMWare machine. Its host OS was RedHat 7.2

connecting vmware through tinc on host system (linux)
Hello,
i'm using a debian etch box (2.6.18-5-686) with tinc 1.0.5 for
connecting to my office LAN.
On the same box there's a vmware virtual machine running (Windows 2k).
Now i'd like to connect this virtual machine through the VPN, too.
All my attempts did fail...
The virtual machine runs with a "host only" network (vmnet1). On the
linux side i tried to configure NAT

Samba Very Slow When Using AFS and MS Office (is this a Bug?)
Hi All,
I am having a problem with Samba that seems to be a bug. I say this
because I read the archives and they described a problem similar to mine
and were told that it was a bug in older version of Samba and the latest
version should have it fixed. I am running what is essentially a RH 7.3 on
a 1.4GHz Athon with 1GB or RAM. I compiled Samba 2.2.5 in /opt/samba-2.2.5
and am using the following

Multiple Linux instances on the same box - dual/triple/etc boot ?
Hi List;
I have a new dev server. As an independent consultant I want to
maximize it's use. Some of my clients use RedHat/CentOS 64 bit, others
Redhat/CentOS 32bit, some are even using Fedora and Debian.
Here's my thought:
I'd like to install each OS/version into it's own space on the disk.
I'm thinking all I have to do is install one OS (say CentOS 64bit) and

ssh startup fails
Hello all :)
While trying to bind to 0.0.0.0 having lo0, eth0 and ippp0 up no matter
whether on- or offline, i get this:
sshd[4518]: error: getnameinfo failed
sshd[4518]: fatal: Cannot bind any address.
It seems sshd tries to get reverse-resolved the ippp0's address. Is
there a configuraiotn fault on my behalf? Did i misunderstand the way
sshd works?
Shouldn't sshd rather not rely on

ISDN on CentOS
Hi Folks,
I'm using ISDN-Connections extensively because ADSL is not available.
So far it works fine "out of the box" (CentOS 5 PAE).
Two questions:
1. for which the fcpci-kernel-modules from atrpm-Repo are useful?
2. Whats about channel bundling?
Does CentOS bundling automaticly on every established connection (if it is
selected in Network-Configuration) or is it only

Question concerning iptables and the example at tinc's homepage
Hi all,
hi Guus,
in july 2004 i received an e-mail from you concerning the way a
packet takes across a (tinc)vpn:

making me crazy.
I use XP on an ADSL connection. PPPoE IP is assigned dinamically. Eth0
IP can be assigned dinamically or statical *tried both*
RedHat 8.0 is the guest, XP service pack 1 is the host. I also uses
sygate firewall on XP *but i set allow all for testing*

Working configuration for 5.1 and VMware 3 or 2?
Hello
is there something wrong with the mail archive search scripts? I always
seem to get 'list unavailable' :-(
Anyway - 5_1 on Dell Latitude C640. the vmware3 port installs but the
paths are a little odd - isoimages, licences are looked for in
/usr/lib/vmware rather than /usr/local/lib....
I installed (w2k) a guest and it is fine but I cannot get networking
host-only or bridge modes
