Microsoft "Windows for Linux"
-cross posted to comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine-
Microsoft should consider producing "Windows for Linux". It could be their
own version of Wine, but it would be nearly 100% compatible with the latest
version of Windows. Microsoft could require that users have a retail copy of
Windows to make this work.
It's a win-win situation. Linux users could run nearly all of the available

Has anyone tried to get Quicktime to work under Wine?
There are a lot of movie trailers that I'd like to watch, but nobody
has a Quicktime player that works under Linux.
Just curious...

Updating WordPerfect Office
The version of Wine that ships with WPOffice 9 is
getting pretty creaky. As far as I can tell, Corel
doesn't have any updates on their site, but as far as
I know there's no reason that someone couldn't update
their version.
Anyone have any luck with this? I'm still trying to
reproduce their build parameters.

[LLVMdev] whole program optimization examples?
Hello,
I was wondering if there is an example list somewhere of whole program
optimizations done by LLVM based compilers?
I'm only familiar with method-level optimizations, and I'm being told wpo
can deliver many great speedups.
My language is currently staticly typed JIT based and uses the JVM, and I
want to move it over to LLVM so that I can have options where it can be
ahead of time

FreeType 2.1.2
I upgraded FreeType to 2.1.2 and it broke WINE.
Is there a simple way to link WINE to: "libfreetype.so.6.3.0" rather
than: "libfreetype.so.6"?
Or, is there some other way to fix it?

regapi and CodeWeavers 1.0p3
Hi all.
I'm trying to get printing going with CodeWeavers Wine
and have come to the part where running "regapi" is
required. Unfortunately this is not included with
the CodeWeavers release. Can anyone suggest a way
forward?
Many thanks,
Pete.

[LLVMdev] whole program optimization examples?
Thanks, Philip for the "lay of the ground" picture. I think the situation
I'm in, which represents my employment (and now personal technical
curiosity) is that we're seeing LLVM implementations show up like every
other week or month, etc. and people are asking us, "well this mathematical
software of yours is great, but my engineer here tells me it's not using
this LLVM

[LLVMdev] whole program optimization examples?
With the patchpoint infrastructure, shouldn't it now be relatively
straightforward to do an accurate-but-non-relocatable scan of the stack, by
attaching all the GC roots as stackmap arguments to patchpoints? This is
something we're currently working on for Pyston (ie we don't have it
working yet), but I think we might get it "for free" once we finish the
work on frame

Agreed. An important consideration here is WPO vs. LTO vs. TU-at-a-time
call graphs.

wine initialising... then nothing
I installed WPO2000 on RedHat 7.2 - it worked fine for a while. I used the
updated install scripts and Mr. Torrie's CorelWine rpm. It has been
working fine for a couple of weeks (and continues to do so on another
machine). Now when I start the WP application, I get a window that says
"Wine initializing...", then it goes away (a little too quickly, I think),
and then...

Fonts too small in Photopaint 9 for Linux
Hi,
I've got Photopaint 9 running fine under Mandrake 8 after running the
postinst script. But, fonts used by Photopaint is so small and it is
inconvenient to look at...
My resolution is 1024x768 on GeForce2MX and Philips 105S (15").
After reading the Wine documentation, I changed the following:
Resolution = 120 (from 96)
In wine.conf under the [fonts] section, then logout, restart X

How can I Generate the cachedmetrics file?
Hello to everybody,
I have accidentally deleted my cachedmetrics file. I thought that after
I run wine and the file is not present, wine would generate it - but it
didn't :(
Does anybody know how can I generate that file?
Thanx in advance
Stelios

Samba stopped working
Hello, all:
I have a server running Red Hat 5.2 and Samba 1.9.18p10, with two
Win95 clients connected to it. This setup had been working for over
three months without any problems, serving files for our accounting
system and allowing the use of a common printer. Three days ago,
without any explanation whatsoever, the network stopped working.
Since the server is configured for dual boot to Win98,
