Abacus DOS problem Lock Selector
A lawyer in California is trying to change to linux. In CA, there are a
number of programs required by the courts, and so far none are ported to
linux at any price. His reason for wishing to change has to do with the
fact that Microsoft now controls his access to his own files, and he finds
this unacceptable.
I tried one of his apps, an old DOS version of Abacus. Using the WINe with

Latest on Abacus DPMI problem.
I contacted Mr. Heinonen, and got the response below. So, he says the
problem is, it is 16 bit DPMI, which is rare, and the real problem is,
DOSVM has a bug which allows two simultaneous interrupts. I assured him I
was not asking anyone to work on the problem at all. I needed to get a
handle on it, I had thought it was a locked selector problem. Learning what
the real problem was, is a big

dosemu, not WINE, to run 16 bit DPMI
Some days ago, I asked for help running an old DOS program for a CA
attorney. It seemed to have a problem with 16 bit DPMI.
While we have had to (temporarily, I hope) compromise and use a licensed
copy of DOS 6.22 to run it with dosemu, it runs perfectly on dosemu.
Instead of usind a hdimage of freedos, which will not run the program, one
creates a dir, /var/lib/dosemu/bootdir, and fills it

follow-up on previous [HELP] messages
Here's some follow-up on some messages I posted some

plain DOS
Hi!
I just hear you talking about programs like UT or winword, requiring either
a 3D rendering engine or a million DLLs.
But has anyone of you ever successfully started a plain DOS Program like
MS edit.com or duke3d?
Whenever i try anything like that wine runs into an infinite loop and does
nothing but produce cpu load and

Mappery : Ye! Utuvienyes! and also Eureka!
Skimming through Fedora's routine updates, one day not long ago,
I noticed the string "garmin" -- and just now thought to try one more
time to make one of my GPSs (all of which are Garmins) talk to my legacy
proprietary map software.
IT DID IT!

Problems with installing
Hi!
I'm having problems with installing Wine. I have downloaded Wine from CVS,
and tried to install it with tools/wineinstall, but got some errors. This
comes from my shell:
[wayne@wayne wine]$ ./tools/wineinstall
WINE Installer v0.73
I see that WINE has already been configured, so I'll skip that.
We need to install wine as root user, do you want us to build wine,

Application needs a 32-bit DOS extender; DOS4GW & DOS32A don't work.
Hi,
I have a DSP compiler I'm trying to get working in linux with wine. The
compiler needs a 32-bit DOS extender. The programme tries to use dos4g.exe or
dos4gw.exe by default. The result is:
wine shc.exe algoio.c

Actually, the first distro with a GUI installer was Yggdrasil, circa 1993.
It installed on 8MB of RAM using X and Athena/FVWM.
