Emulation vs Virtualization
Would someone please explain in simple english what the functional differences are between emulation & virtualization are as far as being able to run Windows applications under Unix / Linux in a "real world" (ie commercial office) environment ?? For what its worth I'd prefer to use an open source unix (FreeBSD / OpenBSD) rather than linux, however there are other issues

Samba with Domain User accounts
I am trying to find an option to M$ file server under Linux. Everything to this point is M$. Whether anybody goes for it or not, I would like to put the option out there for choice. One of the important necessities is that this doesn't become any more complicated for the EU. As soon as you say Linux to the bosses they think more complex for the user and the users have trouble enough logging in

CentOS Within VirtualPC 2007
Trying to get CentOS 5 running under VirtualPC 2007. The installation seems to go OK until X server runs. After this the screen display goes horribly wrong. Does anyone know if this is an issue with v5 or something else. Also has anyone managed to get CentOS running properly (from the install) under VirtualPC 2007? Multiple Group permissions with Samba
I have been trying to get a straight answer on this and hoping that someone can help me out. This is my current configuration (simplified) and what I need. We have 4 directories. Call them directory "a, b, c, and d". We also have 4 groups. Lets call them "admin, user, exec, db." We would want "amdin" group full control over all directories. Next we want group

1-way anova, nested model
Dear all, We compared the gene expression level in two conditions: high (H) and low (L), using real-time PCR. We had 3 samples of each condition, and we quantified each sample twice (i.e. a technical replication). Our data looks like: H1 H1 H2 H2 H3 H3 L1 L1 L2 L2 L3 L3 We want to test if the level in H vs L is significantly different. I would like to use ANOVA and I guess a nested model with

[helpdesk@wolflair.com: Re: Army Builder 3 and linux]
Hello wine-users I'm trying to run the program Army Builder from Wolflair under wine 0.9.7 (freshly compiled on up-to-date Source Mage Gnu Linux distro). The program runs without problems, but wine does not render the ui correctly. All standard buttons in the program fail to be drawn, and are not able to be clicked by the mouse. The fokus-marking around the buttons is however drawn, and

AutoCAD 14 with wine... anyone have any luck with this?
It looks bad from the (possibly outdated) list on the winehq web site. I am also extremely interested in running r14 on Wine or possibly some other emulator. Any suggestions other than WINE??? HVM - BIOS serial console redirection?
I realized this is probably better suited for the devel list.. basically, is there any way in the BOCHS bios to enable ''Serial Console Redirection'', where you see the BIOS contents over the serial line? Windows 2003''s ''Emergency Management Services'' console (which allows you to do installs and fix stuff over the serial line) requires this to

Windoze workstation hangs accessing certain files on the Samba Share.
I'm configuring Samba 2.0.3 for win95/98 clients (~20 workstations) and everything was going great for the first 10 or 12. Now when I access certain subdirectories of my share from the Win machine, everything nearly hangs. I say nearly because the mouse will still move sort of. It creeps along at about a pixel a second. It continues to get worse until I just have to cold boot the workstation.
