Difference in gnome between centos <> fedora
Hello,
I've on my home PC CentOS 6 and Fedora 13 on different disks. When I log
on the gnome enviroment at Fedora knows exactly which programm was started
at which desktop (for example: thunderbird on desktop 1, firefox on
desktop 2, nautilus on desktop 3, ..). The same procedure on Centos takes
all programs on the first desktop, so I must arrange the programs on the
right desktop.

tweek startup and logon
Dear All,
CentOs 6 is great, but I would like to get back 2 things from 5.6 :
how can I always see the text lines during startup? (so no graphical
screen )
how can I *not *see all the users on the system when loging on? (so that
users also have to remember their username)
thanks for any advise.

umask not functioning with cp command
Hi all,
$ umask 0002
$ mkdir test
$ ls -ld test
drwxrwxr-x 2 user user 4096 Jun 23 19:04 test/
$ls -ld content
drwxr-xr-x 2 user user 4096 Jun 23 19:29 content
$ cp -r content test/
$ls -ld test/content
drwxr-xr-x 2 user user 4096 Jun 23 19:29 content
My question is, how can I make content directory permission mode to 775 if I
do cp inside the test directory?
Thanks.

James

question on virtual desktops
centos has the 4 virtual desktops by default.
if I have a terminal window open in desktop 1
is there a command I can execute (type in) to switch to desktop 2?
The mouse will not be attached at this point and I want to switch views
using a command line. How do I do that?
Thanks,
Jerry

windows opening off screen
Hi,
I'm having problems with windows which open off-screen and are thus inaccessible. Until recently, I ran my laptop with an external monitor in a dual-screen configuration. Now, I'm back to a single screen, but some wine apps appear to be trying to start up elsewhere.
So, I can verify that the program is running using ps and xwininfo:

Extracting the window (titlebar) name from a bash script?
Surely there' s a way to obtain the "window name" -which appears on
the Window Manager' s Titlebar- for running processes, right?.
Well, I can't find it...
I mean, the names that appear below each icon when you alt-tab to
switch an app to the foreground.
Is there a simple way to obtain that data along with matching PIDs,
from a Bash script? any built-in tools that provide

I do run devilspie on several CentOS 6 (and 7) boxes w/o any issue. I
didn't think devilspie and wmctrl provide the same features, in the
meaning that devilspie automates what wmctrl does, but maybe I was

I am not sure they provide the same features.
I do use wmctrl with some key shortcuts to move windows between my 2 monitors.

I had forgotten to set the permissions on the upload folder on the

Dear centos community,
I was in the process of installing centos in a machine however during the install the OS is unable to see the controller "MegaRAID SAS 9280-24i4e", i noticed that LSI has some drivers for centos. Can someone guide me on how to load the drivers so the OS can see the controller as it loads. Thank you in advance. Lisandro

Automatically detecting LUNs without a reboot
Hi everybody.
I have an HP StorageWorks array connected to one of my servers,
connected via an LSI controller (lspci reports: SCSI storage controller:
LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08))
on an HP DL385 running CentOS 5.5 x86_64.
I have set up multipath and all is working but, when I create a snaphost
and export it as a new LUN from the HP web interface, it
