one question
Hi Stephen,
I'm one of developers of SnapFS, which based on Ext3. I got Assertion failure
from SnapFS, at ext3_new_block() in fs/ext3/balloc.c:
J_ASSERT (!test_and_set_bit(BH_Alloced, &bh->b_state))
If J_ASSERT is only use as debug, why it will modify data?
I found the 'BH_Alloced' flag only occures at two place: one is balloc.c as
above, the other is at journal_forget() in

brtfs on Solaris? (Re: [osol-discuss] [indiana-discuss] So when are we gonna fork this sucker?)
brtfs could be supported on Opensolaris, too. IMO it could even
complement ZFS and spawn some concurrent development between both. ZFS
is too high end and works very poorly with less than 2GB while brtfs
reportedly works well with 128MB on ARM.

Top shows brtfs-cache-1 and brtfs-endio-met while the hard drives seem busy
Hi,
I have setup about a year ago a BTRFS RAID 1 filesystem on two 2TB
Western Digital WD20EARS hard drives and I have created subvolumes
that I mount regularly as I need them. I put mostly music, videos and
various files on them as well as some Git bare repositories for my
work files but for the last couple of weeks, there seems to be some
activity happening on the drives for a few minutes and

Using a namespace for providing access to mail snapshots for user based on-demand restoration of email backups
Hi all,
I'm planning on implementing this in my new upcoming dovecot instance,
and would like to hear thoughts on how best to accomplish this. We will
be paying Timo's support company to do the work, but obviously, the less
work in the form of coding he has to do to get this working (I'm hoping
it won't be a lot), the more money it will save us... ;)

Are there any news on zfs snapshots support?
Yes. It is in the review phase . Actually Sriram implemented zfs
snapshot and Mark implemented the brtfs and Mark merged these two
patches [1]. Adding them in cc .
Reviews are most welcome.

No, probably a lack of users using your combination of Samba, btrfs and
quotas.

I wanted to know if anyone on the list can recommend one or more scripts to
install on a CENT OS web server that allows you to back up the entire box to

rsync failing with return code 13
Hi there,
I'm running rsync on an nslu2 (using nslu2-linux) and it keeps failing
with return code 13. The man page doesn't give a good description of
what this means ("Errors with program diagnostics") so could someone
give me a clue. as to what diagnostics rsync is running and reasons why
they might be failing? The only magic to note is the machine only has
32MB of ram so low

rsync filter rules ignored by rsnapshot
Hello guys,
sorry for cross-posting, but imho it could be an error in my rsnapshot setup
as well as in my rsync setup. If there is a solution on one of these mailing-lists i will
post it to the other one as well. ok?
here is my question: when running rsnapshot, my exclude filter is being ignored, but i don't see why.
grep -v "#" /etc/rsnapshot-debx40.conf | grep .

Permissions causing full backups?
I am using rsync/rsnapshot on Windows XP (via cygwin) to backup to a mapped
share (/u) on a Linux server. I’m hoping to get this to work so that I
don’t have to open an XP share to the network for Linux “pull” backups.
My current setup doesn’t seem to give me incremental backups. See the “du”
output…
$ /usr/bin/du -csh /cygdrive/u/docs_bkup/daily.0/
/cygdrive/u/docs_bkup/daily.1/

rsync takes long pauses in xfer ?
Hey folks,
I did some googling on this but did not come up with much. I'm using
rsnapshot which uses rsync, and I notice some pretty long pauses in
the xfers as you can see on this graph from "munin". THe machine in
question right at the moment is doing nothing but rsyncing (
rsnapshoting ) some 12T of NAS storage to local disk, so there is
nothing else going on at all.

Hello,
yesterday i posted this issue on snapshot-discuss at listsourceforge.net (subject:
wondering why backup wont start), but after reading the FAQ and searching the
bugzilla DB i thought it could help to post here as well.
i have a problem. But let me first describe my setup. i followed this howto:

pseudo incremental backup solution
Hello dear list!
Just wanted to tell you that there's a simple and somehow smart
backup solution using rsync named ccollect [0].
It uses the hardlink feature of rsync to create fullbackups with only
minor size differences (it uesd cp -al and pax before).
I would be happy for any critic about the software, the documentation
the configuration style (cconfig [1]) and the idea itself.

--link-dest
Has anyone else had problems using the --link-dest flag? I do what it says in the example
rsync -a --delete --link-dest=/home/chamberl/oldbk/ /home/chamberl/source/ /home/chamberl/backup/
I make sure that /home/chamberl/source has some files exactly the same as in /home/chamberl/oldbk/
but evertything gets copiued, and no hard links are done (though they should be).
Anyone know the problem?

preserving Mac OS X metadata in rsync backups and restores
Hello all,
I'm new to the list, but have done quite a bit of researching before
regarding the support of Mac OS X specific features (resource forks,
extended attributes, ACLs, file creation & modification date).
By reading the archives, I get the impression that the current
version of rsync 3.0.0pre8 is quite far in this respect. At least it
sounds so, and I thank the developers
