which ldap do you like
To All,
I am going to try my hand at setting up an ldap server. I have looked
at what is available and would like to ask your opinions as to what is a
good one to have.
openldap, centos-ds, and freeipa seem to be high on everyone's list.
Which one do you like, and does it have a good setup tutorial I could
use. So far the tutorials I have looked at seem out of sync with the
curent versions

Samba as PDC+OpenLDAP: unique login?
Hello all,
I'm new to OpenLDAP and a moderate Samba admin.
My nights became not so good while trying to get running OpenLDAP + Samba as
PDC on a Slackware 12.1 server...
Well, the scenario is:
I have a functional and already running OpenLDAP base that provides login
for users on Web apps.
My actual PDC is an old MS NT4 Server.
I'm using the default Samba (v. 3.0.28a) installed by

smbldap and samba as a PDC
Hi people, I have a problem with samba, openldap and the creation of machine
accounts.
I don't know if here is a good place to ask but I don't receive help in
other places.. I read many guides, howto's, etc. but
I can't get around with the solution...
I have seen an older message to another list (mail.gna.org) asking for the
same problem that I have, it was:

sssd - ldap uid/gid does not match with uid/gids in the openLDAP DS
CentOS 6.4 (amd64) client desktop with SSSD installed+configured to do
LDAP AUTH from an openLDAP DS.
Groups in LDAP DS -- dsusers (for all users), project1, project2, ....
The objective is to give group permissions to directory trees with
users belonging to various groups; users thereby inheriting the ACL
given to respective groups.
Test case --
uid: jdoe,
gid: dsusers (primary)

Is the smbldap-tools package no longer maintained?
I've been trying to find news on the smbldap-tools package from IDEALX
but my google searches have been fruitless. In my FreeBSD port build
run yesterday I noticed that the port is listed as *broken* because
the download link no longer works. Is there a new home for this code
or has it lost it's maintainer?
*Note* I was able to build against a cached download but if the

Fwd: Re: Problem with Samba - Openldap and domain autentication of Windows XP
Wait, you are using samba with openldap backend.
Why are you using useradd ??? with this backend you need smbldap instead.
like this:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://your ldap server
ldap passwd sync = yes
ldap delete dn = Yes
ldap admin dn = cn=root,dc=domain,dc=com,dc=br
ldap suffix = dc=domain,dc=com,dc=br
ldap machine suffix =

smaba &ldap
Hello,
I am running a samba 3.0.32 under fedora core 9.
I only try to authenticate users against a ldap server. Of course this
server knows the encrypted password as microsoft does. I entered the
ldap password using smbpasswd to query into the ldap. After this, I just
obtain a message like "you don't have rights to ...".
What errors do I make ???
Any ideas will be appreciated

problem with samba and ldap
hi,
I have a problem with samba and ldap, when I add a machine in a domain,
samba is not searching on *ou=machine*, but on *ou=users*.
But if i change in smbldap.conf *computersdn="ou=machine,${suffix}"* to *
computersdn="ou=users,${suffix}"* it works.
bellow is my smb.conf

netbios name = PDC

Problem with CentOS 4.3 and ldap
I currently have a server with centos 4.3 setup to do email. I use
sendmail as the receiving agent and Dovecot as the pop/imap server. Users
authenticate off of a openldap server. Under a light load things appear
to work fine. However under a moderately heavy load connections are left
open in a waiting state. This causes some email to bounce with user
unknown, users authentications fails with

selinux prohibiting sssd usage
I've got a CentOS 6 machine that's slated to go into production
providing some web and development-repository services.
Part of the environment is gitweb, which works as expected with one
glitch: SELinux doesn't allow gitweb.cgi to query sssd to display who
owns the repositories.
The audit log entries are pretty straightforward, e.g.,
type=AVC msg=audit(XXXXXXXXXXXX): avc:

LDAP authentication on a remote server (via ldaps://)
Hello,
I have a central repository of users/groups based on OpenLDAP which is
working on a remote LAN (servers share users credentials and mount
their home directories via NFS). They use non-encrypted ldap
restricted to the local network.
Now, I have a few servers in our local office and I would like them to
authenticate from the remote LDAP server using encryption via
ldaps://.

ldap: adding user to multiple groups
Hi all,
Not having much luck adding a user to more then 1 group in OpenLDAP
thats provided in Centos.
Any suggestions to have the outcome of having a user belong to
multiple groups?
Should I create a new group that has multiple GIDs and assign a user
to that new group? If so, how? :)
Thanks in advance.

CentOS 8.2 / missing libc++ (libcxx-devel)
Hi community,
In CentOS 7 there is such rpm (libcxx-devel - it seems from EPEL
repository), but in CentOS 8 it isn't.
How is it possible to have it there as RPM? because alternative to build it
(libc++) from sources is a big headache (I need it in order to build v9 and
plv8 projects)
Thanks

NSS ldap problems
I'm having trouble setting up ldap based authenication.
I have a virtual (KVM) CentOS 5.4 box set up to authenticate to a 389 (fedora) directory server, and that works fine.
However, I set up a virtual box running CentOS 6, and I can't get it to authenicate.
I've run authconfig with the appropriate flags, ldapsearch properly finds the data, but I can't log in. /var/log/secure
