SCSI write retry errors on ZIL SSD drives...
I posted a thread on this once long ago[1] -- but we''re still fighting
with this problem and I wanted to throw it out here again.
All of our hardware is from Silicon Mechanics (SuperMicro chassis and
motherboards).
Up until now, all of the hardware has had a single 24-disk expander /
backplane -- but we recently got one of the new SC847-based models with
24 disks up front and 12 in the

SAS storage arrays, C6, and SES lights
So I'm curious how SAS JBOD arrays and linux MDraid as implemented in
CentOS6, and SES (SCSI/SAS Enclosure Services) backplane controllers
'get along' and how much configuration is needed to get the warning
lights to work properly.
scenario: whitebox server with a SAS backplane or two, daisy chained
on a SAS HBA (like an LSI Logic 2008), and disks organized as several

OCZ Vertex3 SSD and LSI 9211-8i (mpt2sas)
I have a couple development servers running centos 6.3 64bit that have
LSI 9211-8i SAS2 controllers connected to a SAS2 backplane. these
work fine with SATA hard disks (populated with a bunch of 3TB SATA
drives)...
I'm trying to install a OCZ Vertex3 SSD on each of the two servers to do
some ssd caching tests... system sees the drive, so I do the following...

LSI 3GB HBA SAS Errors (and other misc)
During the diagnostics of my SAN failure last week we thought we had seen a backplane failure due to high error counts with ''lsiutil''. However, even with a new backplane and ruling out failed cards (MPXIO or singular) or bad cables I''m still seeing my error count with LSIUTIL increment. I''ve got no disks attached to the array right now so I''ve also

OT supermicro server chassis?
Does anyone have a supermicro 942i server chassis? I'm trying to
figure out if it has a true nine 5.25" drive bays, or if the one
occupied by the 3.5" caddy is special / crippled.
What I want to do is install three of the supermicro 5x3 hot swap
backplanes and I'm gunshy about buying one site unseen.
Thanks!

[OFFTOPIC] integrated LSI 3008 :: number of hdd support
In my experience the mass market HBAs and RAID cards typically do support
only 8 or 16 drives. For the internal variety in a standard rack-mount
server you'll usually see either 2 or 4 iPass cables (each of which support
4 drives) connected to the backplane. The marketing material you've
referenced has a white lie in it: supporting more than 16 drives on a
single card is very likely only

Linux domain member server: Win group does not map to UNIX group
Hi, all
I've installed Version 3.5.10-0.109.el5_8 from the samba3x RPM for Win7
compatibility. We are predominately a Linux shop and have only a
handful of Win7 (Pro/Ultimate) dual-boot workstations for running things
like Photoshop, etc
We run a fairly minimal LDAP backend for Linux auth/automount (no SASL
backend) and have not implemented a full Samba schema - i am waiting to

module-info vs pci.ids
Hello -
It's been sooooo long since I've tried hacking the kickstart
media to include an updated driver but I guess that time has
come again for me at least, getting an updated "igb" driver
into the CentOS 5.2 installation for a HP DL165G5p(I'm not
ready yet for CentOS 5.3).
Anyways, I had a pretty basic question, I added a bunch of
entries into the pci.ids file that were

Johan accidentally wrote me personally with the following email, which I
thought would be better intended for the syslinux list. Replies to *Johan*

TE405P hardware question
Does anyone know which physical interrupt line out of the four on the PCI backplane
the TE405P uses? Or is it somehow configurable by hardware or software?
I'm trying to diagnose a problem where the card generates no interrupts in one
system, but is fine in another system. These systems are SBC-in-backplane type.
My knowledge of how PCI works at the physical layer is rather limited, but I
