Centos Router
With the current discuss of "Performance of CentOS as a NAT gateway", I am curious how many people out there are using CentOS as a Router/Firewall in an enterprise or service provider environment. For myself I am not really concerned about NAT just a stateful firewall. The other half of my questions is about performance. I have read many articles and posts on the net about

network interface activation order
I am using CentOS as a firewall/router. I am using bonded interfaces, vlan interfaces, and bridge interfaces. My problem currently is that on boot the system is attempting to activate the bridge interface before it's bonded-vlan members have been created. What this means is that the bridge is created but not activated. Is there anyway for me to influence the activation order and have

A couple of CentOS 5.1 issues
I've finally made the switch to CentOS 5.1 (I had been running 4.6). So far, so good, but I do have a few issues. First, I can not find kermit (or ckermit) in any of the repos (base, extras, centosplus, rpmforge). On my 4.6 systems, /usr/bin/kermit was provided by the package ckermit in the base repo. That package appears to be no longer available. Any ideas where I could find a

For you old-timers, an RS232 question about data rate confirmation.
Hello all. This is a question that I should be able to answer, but the old grey cells aren't working. My Google-Fu must not be up to snuff, either. I have a MOXA IP-RS232 converter that I'm going to be using over an RF WAN and I need to confirm the actual data rate that I'll be able to achieve. I have the drivers loaded (/dev/ttyr00) and a loopback plug on the end of the device. I

Inquiry:External USB modem and Remote PC Access?

Problems with minicom on CentOS 4.4
Hi all I am a newcomer of this ML. And I installed CentOS a couple of hours ago on my i386 box because it is said that CentOS is a community based binary distro of RHEL. Before that I used to use RH9(it is quite out of date for my newly upgraded PC) as my host environment to work on embedded systems. The installation procedure went smoothly and after that everything looked functional, however, I

Minicom and Ncurses
Hi, I have to do some maintenance on a CentOS 7 proxy installed on a routerboard without a video card. The only way to access this machine directly is via Minicom and serial port. I'm using NetworkManager TUI (nmtui) to configure network interfaces, but Ncurses rendering in Minicom works in the sense that chickens fly and horses swim. What you get is a forest of question marks with a few

FW: samba woes
All, I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

dumping using tftp
Hello, I'm not quite sure I understand how do you use HDT for dumping over tftp server. The wiki on dumping does not offer much details on how to set this up. >From my understanding is you need to run pxelinux somewhere but being that HDT is a bootable cd ISO, I don't see how I can get HDT up from a TFTP server without the need to install something on that TFTP server. Terminal emulation and serial ports
I have to reinit a firewall that can only be done from its console port, and I do not have an XP system with Hyperterminal on it. So I went through the archive and learned that minicom could do the job for me. I installed it and went to configure it (minicom -s). I can set the speeds, but the challenge is selecting the serial device. I have a Serial-to-USB dongle, and when I connect it,
