Centos 6: howto install and run KDE
On my laptop, I have not been able to get KDE to run; I
always get gnome. I installed selecting KDE, and I tried
yum groupinstall, which appeared to work, but I still get
gnome running. BTW, I boot to level 3, and run startx.
Thanks for your suggestions.

CentOS 6: Making KDE Default
I learned from Anne that if I boot to level
5, after I enter the username, can select
Gnome or KDE. I note that the default is
always Gnome.
How can I make the default KDE?
How can I get KDE with startx after booting to level 3?
Thanks,
Mike.

Broadcom Failure: Chg CentOS 6.0 to 5.7
After following various advice I received on other
threads to get the Broadcom wlan0 on my laptop to work
I have still not succeeded. Therefore I am changing
from CentOS 6.0 to 5.7 . I think that I'll first try
the fix at:
http://elrepo.org/tiki/wl-kmod
on 5.7 .
Anyone have a reason why I should proceed differently?
Thanks,
Mike.

asterisk hung up the line after 10 minutes right after a beep beep beep sound
I have a normal setup of calls coming in on analog lines (4 of them)
coming into
an old KX1232 pbx. I have those lines forwarded to a T1 card in the KX1232
going over to my T1 card, it then uses IAX going over to my REAL
asterisk pbx.
(these steps are there for testing and other items)
Anyway after a 10 minute call asterisk gives a faint beep, beep, beep
and then
hangs up the line.
Is there

CentOS 6 KDE: remove default icons
On my newly installed CentOS 6 I am running KDE (I think; I selected it
in the setup, but how would I know?). It has three default icons:
Computer; Root's Home; Trash. I do not see them in /root/Desktop.
How can I remove them?
Thanks,
Mike.

Transfer beep w/ Polycom phone
Hi all.
When a user transfers a call by pressing the "transfer" soft button on their
phone, I'd like it to "beep" at them when the transfer is complete. I've got
it turned on in features.conf:
xfersound = beep ; to indicate an attended transfer is complete
xferfailsound = beeperr ; to indicate a failed transfer
However, it seems that

C8 and KDE
Goog morning to the list,
for all users that are interested about KDE Plasma on Centos 8 you can
install KDE from epel.
All packages are get from epel-playground and epel-testing and some
packages seems need to be build.
I run "yum grouplist" and see kde workspace available. I tried to
install it, reboot my machine and running startx a KDE plasma session
was correctly launched.

X Abort after run level 3->5 transition and multiple logins are tried?
Through many years and through CentOS-6.5, I would boot to runlevel 3,
do various admin stuff on my desktop and then telinit 5, which started
an X session on tty7. I would then do logout->switch user a few times to
get additional user IDs active. Many years ago I would accomplish this
with some kind of "startx ... :1', or ':2' etc. thingy, but I've
forgotten the details

Homedir access rights and running KDE
Hello,
I use pam_winbind for users authentification and pam_mount for mounting homedirs stored on w2k3 fiel server.
I still have two more problems to solve:
1. I?m not able to set proper access rights on homedir. I want to set
them to 700 but after mounting the homedir access rights are set to 777.
I used to use pam_mkhomedir umask=0077 attribute to set proper rights,
but this have no effect

# chkconfig: kill at run level 3
In the control script of my daemon in /etc/init.d?, I have
# chkconfig: 35 97 3
The result of this is that I have links:
/etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K03...
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S97...
/etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S97...
As mentioned in a previous thread, my complex daemon throws
an exception when I shutdown. Perhaps things might be better
if I had:
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/K03...
Might this be a good idea? If so,

Severe issues with the latest 6.5 desktop
Ok, here at home, I'm running kde. After the last update, last week, and
reboot (and that was a *real* mess - some issue I'm not sure I've resolved
yet, trying to boot off RAID 1), here's what's started happening:
I run in runlevel 3, and have a startx in my .bash_profile. At some point,
just about every day, suddenly the toolbar on the bottom vanishes, as does my
desktop

CentOS 6.2 KDE desktop with KDM - need guidance
I want a CentOS 62 (amd64) KDE desktop with KDM as the GUI login manager.
My system environment is as follows:
Host OS: openSUSE 11.4 .(amd64) with VirtualBox (64 bit)
GuestOS: CentOS 6.2 (amd64) 10GB virtual disk
I chose the "Customize Now" option in the installer and chose "KDE"
group w/o the "Desktop" group. The system boots to a CLI console. I
can login and

group install KDE does not enable runtime?
In my continuing investigation of CentOS-7 I did yet another minimal install.
Subsequent to that I ran yum update kernel, and then yum group install KDE.
Now, KDE installed about 480Mb of stuff, which compares favourably to Gnome's
971Mb. However, when I run startx from the command line, instead of getting a
desktop I see these errors instead:
xauth: file /root/.serverauth.12462 does not
